I got tired of having a mouse hole in my Sprinter 3211bhs so I ordered this kit from amazon. easy and quick to install. plus now since my power cord disconnects, there is no more fighting to get the cord back into the hole. very happy with it!!

Do you have the link to the item on amazon and a pic of it without the power plugged on? Also what was install process? Very interested here...

In this case the kit covered the existing cutout. It does not always do it. You can also buy the plug and inlets separately and use a piece of Starboard or plastic cutting board from Walmart to make a mounting plate, as shown below.

Many of us have done the Marinco conversion. Here's the kit, available at Amazon.com. It is also available at other places, so you might want to shop around. I've seen the kit sold for upwards of $100 in the recent past. It seems the price runs in cycles and this is one of the lowest prices I've seen recently:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...pf_rd_i=507846

Conntek also makes a conversion kit, but I don't know if it has the same quality as Marinco. Here's a link to that kit with no comments other than "It's available" :
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...pf_rd_i=507846

As Bob said, if the current cord outlet hole is cut slightly larger than the mounting flange (some are, some aren't) you can get a thick plastic cutting board from Walmart for a couple of dollars and cut out a larger mounting adapter to cover the existing hole.

Instructions are pretty clear with the Marinco kit, but realistically, it's as simple as changing a plug on the end of an extension cord. Just be sure you follow the directions on polarity closely and doublecheck your work carefully so you don't get the hot and neutral leads reversed.

Good Luck

Marinco makes them in both round and square configuration. The Contek looks to be Home Depot quality, probably OK for RVs but it's not going to hold up to the elements like the Marinco one will. You can't sell the same quality for half the price.. Marketing 101..

This was my very first mod. Got mine from Amazon (Marinco). I used the space where the cord was stored to install a Power Management System (Progressive).

Hello all, since I'm new to the RV life, I'm trying to figure out what this mod does. How does it make the original setup better, and why would one want to do this mod, please educate me.

If I understand it correctly, this will replace the pull-out power cord with a receptacle on the outside wall. You can then use a two ended cable to plug between your camper and the shore power connector.

I had some wasps in my cord hole this past trip and may look at this as a preventative measure.

Ok, I think I understand. Instead of using the cord that I have now where I have to push it in and turn to lock in place, this mod will be more like plugging in an extension cord into the wall.

I believe your Raptor already has a detachable power cord. If so, then you wouldn't benefit from this mod as it accomplishes the same thing.

The mod is for those with "permanently" attached power cords that are pulled out of a cubbyhole for use and then pushed back into that cubbyhole after use. The opening where the cable is accessed is not waterproof, insect proof or insulated and can cause a bit of frustration when bees nest there, mice use it to gain access and when snow/ice piles up inside. The mod eliminates the hole and the need to push/pull the cable.

Oh ok JRT JH thanks for the lesson. As you can see I'm still learning this forum thing. Next I'm going to learn how to reply to a question where it highlighted like your reply.

If you are talking about the blue, highlighted portion above the actual reply, that is accomplished by clicking on the QUOTE tab found in the lower right-hand corner. If you do not want to include the entire post in your quote, just highlight the portions you want to omit and hit DELETE on your keyboard.

the picture shows a square plate, but the one I received was round.
Some thief started my power cord disconnect modification by cutting the cord off about 4" beyond the mouse hole when he stole it while parked in dry storage. This was discovered the afternoon before leaving on a trip. Good thing I tried to connect to house power to top off the batteries (which were still there due to my battery box modification after that theft).

There was just enough cord to wire in a male plug but the door no longer closes. I then used my spare 10 Ga extension for shore power.

We are currently in a campground and I want to wire in a permanent outlet as pictured.

Marinco shows a junction box with their kit. Access from the inside looks difficult as it appears to be permanently boxed in.

1. Is the junction box necessary?
2. The prong configuration looks different from my shore power cord. 30 Amp service two flats and a round. Is it necessary to cut off my existing plug and wire in another (Is it supplied with the kit)?
3. Is 3" to 4" of accessible wire enough to work with?
Thanks...

Just inboard of the external 'mouse hole', there should be an access panel/door of some kind. In the space that is used to store the cord, there will be a junction box where the shore power cord connects to the romex. Your trailer may be the exception, but, I can't imagine not having a way to access this junction box.

I pulled the external cover off to retrieve the bitter end and can see the wire disappearing and bending hard left in the vicinity of my bath sink cubby hole but when I looked from inside the whole area looks boxed off with trim and cabinetry.
I was thinking that if I wired straight to the back of the fixture it would be protected.

If you are going to upgrade to the Marinco, when you remove the mouse hole access door on the outside of your trailer, you might have room to connect the wires for the Marinco receptacle by reaching in through the hole? Might be too small an opening - good luck and share your results
