A pitpin is a pin with a locking ball mechanism, usually used on heavy equipment to lock it securely. The Ball mechanism is a quick means of unlocking the pin for quick removal:
We used them a lot in the Air Force, the pins were used to safety the landing gear on the Aircraft on the aground were exclusively pit pins.
Or you could go with the following quick release pin:
My problem with the bolt is if you have an emergency, say like (god forbid) your rig is on fire you would have to loosen the nut and pull the bolt out, where as with the pin you just pull the locking pin and yank it out.
