Washing Machine odor

My wife says she can smell a sour smell coming from the washing machine[ a front loader]. Does anyone know of a product that you can run through the machine to take the smell away, besides bleach. I can't smell it , but then she does most of the laundry.

If its like the front loaders for form homes check the door seal gasket. Things get pushed in there and go bad. We've found socks in there! Great place for mold to grow also. They do make a washing machine cleaner you can run through an empty machine that should help also.

Lots of products are now on the market and available at your local stores. Most important is to leave the washer door open to let it dry after using.

Every 10 or 20 loads (or two or three weeks) you need to run bleach through it. Wash some whites, or (if you have it) a clean cycle. Not ALL the water is pumped out (there is residue in the pump and sump), and mold starts to grow in what is left, wash after wash it is kept wet, and at some point starts to smell.

The DW just cruised by and reminded me that she NEVER closes the door when the front loader is empty. She says that will keep it from getting all funky(her phrase, not mine)
