Tree limb damage

I just had a large tree limb fall on our 2 month old cougar 31sqb damaging both the roof and driver side panel. What are the chances this can be repaired back to its original condition and no issues in the future??

There are many RV repair shops that won't hesitate to fix this damage for you. If it is properly done, there is no reason to expect any more issues in the future than with an undamaged unit.

However, if your rig has a single piece of filon forming the whole side panel of the trailer, the repair can get very expensive. Some shops may suggest just cutting out the damaged area and replacing with what is essentially a patch. If done right, this can be a much more economical solution, and again, should do well in the future. Regardless, any repair will require just as much, if not a bit more, owner monitoring and possible maintenance (like re-caulking) over the life of the trailer.

The roof is a fairly easy repair because of products like Eternabond and the Dicor self-leveling caulk. But again, it will require that you keep an eye on it in the future.

In both cases, if a seam opens up or caulk cracks somewhere down the line, it needs to be attended to promptly. Failure do so would probably result in water damage, but it would not be because of the original repair.

If you know of or can find a reputable RV repair facility who will be able, as Steve pointed out, "to do the job properly", your RV can be brought back to its original condition without future problems. The key is being able to take it to someone who has had previous restoration experience and knows what they are doing and does it well.
You didn't mention about your insurance coverage but I am assuming that, other than the deductible, you won't be out of pocket for these repairs.
Once repaired, you will have to stay on top of all the usual maintenance items and keep a close eye on the repaired sections for any signs of separation, etc.

hope you had insurance on it. Our friends have to get the whole side replaced on their toyhauler. A guy had a heart attack and went off the road and ran over a bunch of mail boxes, the phone portal and pushed the mail boxes right into the toyhauler. So far the estimate to replace the side, the water heater, landing gears (bent them badly) is 13,000. I think they decided the frame and the floor was good. The good thing about this accident is the guy lived after my friends wife did cpr on him, it didn't push the trailer into my boyfriends house. It was parked an inch away, but when it hit swung the trailer away from the house. whew.

"Been there and done that", as they say. I impaled my brand new Cougar on a huge oak branch on our first trip $15,000 later it was repaired so you could never find proof of the damage and I assure you I thought that would be impossible. We did take it to the repair facility for the dealer where we purchased the trailer originally and they had a very large facility. Thank goodness we had insurance.

Funny that you say that because there was a slight abrasion on the fabric and although I didn't think it needed to be replaced, the insurance replaced it! But yeah, the actual mechanism was unscathed.

OUCH! Doesn't look quite THAT bad but I guess I shouldn't be surprised. Hopefully, you are insured for this.

I thought for a moment you were using my pictures! Wow, I can feel your pain but keep the faith. It will be good as new. The shop did have our trailer for 6 weeks though

Good Luck!

when the bf and I got estimates to do on the other fw roof cause it was rotted. The lowest price we got was 10,000. I was so proud of him, I bought the stuff for about 1000.00 and he did the roof. Had to replace some of the plyboard and he almost died from the heat but he did a dang good job. no bubbles

WOW! If i didn't know better I would say that happened up in Oregon at Nehalem Bay SP, beautiful SP on the Coast, but a LOT of low hanging tree branches.
Guy the cam in a big Diesel Pusher next to us carried a tree pruner with him, and cut several branches so he could get in.

I peeled off a sewer vent backing in last year. Now while DW watches out for kids on the loose, I stop and get out and look up about three times while backing into the space to be sure I miss it all.
