TV Tires

I have a 2017 Ram 2500 4X4 6.7 diesel crew cab with 285/60 20 oem tires. Looks like I will soon need to replace these tires and would appreciate input on recommended manufacturers and types. I tow a 2014 Mountaineer.

Couple of factors that if known might help. Budget? Driving surfaces, do you drive all surfaced roads, off road, mud, snow?

TV tires

My TV is my daily driver so I travel the vast majority of time on paved roads and highway. It is a 4X4 and I do some limited off road travel. Snow is not usually a problem where I live but it does occur on occasion, and my budget is not unlimited. I am looking for a good, multi use tire that will provide good mileage and good tread wear characteristics for a reasonable price.

Toyo Open Country AT

Not the cheapest, but a very good tire.

This topic comes up a lot and I think there may be another thread running currently that speaks to some of this. A search may be beneficial.

I use and recommend Michelin Defenders (in your size if I recall) - love them. They can be a bit pricey. I've owned many, if not most, other brands and Michelin's overall performance is hands down better in my experience.

The Firestone TransForce ATs that came on the truck really surprised me and did a good job. Hadn't owned a Firestone tire in decades due to their previous debacle and proven poor performance. The TransForce did a great job mileage and ride wise but a little poor on slick surfaces and tended to "cut" easily if you hit a pothole or rock...so I took them off.

One of our moderators (JRTJH) recently put a set of Sailun truck tires on his TV and has been impressed with their performance and the pricing was much more favorable compared to the Michelins.

I'm with Danny on the Michelins, pricey but in my case I'd wear out 2-3 sets of the other brands to 1 of the Michelins. Personal example, I put a set of Yokohamas, found these to be second best to Michelins, that lasted 48k miles, 1 set of Falkens that went 30k barely, 2 sets of Michelins that got 70k each & had 60k on a set when I sold the truck that still looked new, all these were on a dually towing a 16.5k 5er full-time. We had to run GY & Firestone tires on our trucks at work & neither wore very well & both tended to be square in about 25k miles. I put the Sailun tires on my last 5th wheel & was impressed with them before selling it.

Thanks folks. I will check on the Michelin Defenders as that is what I have had in the past and was pleased with them. I also will check out the Sailuns, as y’all say they are quite a bit cheaper.

I was going to "weigh in with a recommendation" yesterday, but found on the Sailun website that they don't have a Terramax AT or HT tire in the size you quoted, so it seems that Sailun is not an option. That size tire, 285 60R20 is "pricey" in terms to other size truck tires. The limited availability will probably mean less competition and higher "per tire pricing"....

With very limited research/pricing on my part, I'd be inclined to focus on the Michelin's as well.

One of the reasons I had the dealer swap my 20 inch rims for 18 inch ones when I bought my truck. Too hard to find tires and I didn't like the shorter sidewalls.
