Hooking in to propane system

Like most of you I have a quick connect LP fitting coming out of the bottom of my 5th wheel. I use it for my camp chef etc.

I have a large 100# propane bottle I use in my shop. My question is this: can I hook my big bottle's low pressure side (downstream from the regulator) to the quick connect on my trailer? That way I could save my smaller bottles when I'm parked beside the house.

Anyone do this? Any idea what pressure I'd need to run at?

When I had the regulator adjusted on my previous TT, the technician set it between 11-12 psi. Beware, that was my observation, I am not a trained propane tech.

I would say that it's not safe to do that. Putting a bottle downstream of the regulator defeats the purpose of the regulator.

I got a replacement hose at my local dealer for $20 to replace the hose to my 30# bottle, so I could attach a 100#. Took about 5 mins to hook up.

I'd suggest doing that.

If Kschitoskey has a regulator on his 100 lb bottle that he can adjust to 10 or so psi why would he need to go thru a second regulator?

Must have skipped over the part that he had a regulator on the bottle.

It may work that way, but I'd be sure that the small bottles are shut off (valves closed) when using the big one.

Howdy All;

Why not call your local Propane company ???

Also I believe they measure the volume of gas being moved in Inches of Water not psi... at least that's how they checked out my system when i had the 125 gal. tank hooked in.

Propane pressure

Not to be picky here, but proper low side propane is 11 inches of water NOT 11 PSI!

11inches of water = 0.39 PSI, a BIG difference.

11PSI would likely cause a fire, or worse.

A standard propane regulator provides enough pressure to run a grill, the oven, and a stove burner. I have not seen on that looks like it could be taken apart without destroying it, so I would run from anyone who claims that they could adjust one or had done it. It's just not necessary. They are factory set to deliver 11 inches WC. I would also wonder if propane becomes unstable under excessive pressure like acetylene does. At any rate, if you are uncertain about what you are doing, go to a professional. Propane can be some pretty nasty stuff and I had a family member that was a victim in a propane explosion. It wasn't pretty.

Propane and propane accessories...

Thanks to everyone for the replies. I figured getting some use out of the available quick connect was worth a try; getting a custom extended hose is the (most) right decision for me.

I really appreciate this forum and the expertise of those using it.
