Striker Hook

My problem is with the hook that holds the screen door to the exterior door so that they both open as one when not using the screen door. My hook is held by two small screws thru thin metal. It continues to come loose and then does not hold the screen door when opening the exterior door. I was wondering if someone has found a good fix for this. Thx.

Double sided tape on the back of the hook.

Might use a small piece of aluminum, pop riveted to the door and then attach the hook to that. A new latch might be a good thing too. https://www.amazon.com/CampN-Screen-...s%2C399&sr=8-5

Just in case… Don’t pull on the screen door to close the outer door. We added a grab bar to the inside of the screen door and we naturally want to use the grab bar to close both doors. But the hook is a weak connection between the doors. Especially if you have the friction hinges that keep the door from flying around in the wind. We always slide the screen door plastic panel to the side and use the outer door handle when closing both doors.

You can repair the problem in a couple ways. As stated above, remove the screws and use pop-rivets to re-attach.

A second option is to use JB Weld for metal. Follow the directions on the package. Stuff it in the hole, let it dry completely. This stuff has metal shavings and when it dries, it is hard as steel. You can then screw back into it and reattach the catch. You might have to drill a pilot starter hole in it again too.

The pop-rivet is probably quicker if you have a pop-rivet gun handy.
