If you tested your battery with a volt meter and it had 11 volts on it, do you think that they would tell you to disconnect it for 11 minutes instead?
Anyway, I'm curious as to why disconnecting your battery, which is DC, would affect your air conditioner which is fed by AC? I know I've looked at mine and I don't recall there being a DC feed to it, but maybe there is.
