Which vent covers are you using?

Going to invest in vent covers this winter for use in the spring. Wondering which covers others are using and why? How happy are you with their performance?

Also wondering if the different covers are interchangeable? Or do you need to use the cover made by the fan maker that is installed in the camper? Lots of questions and any and all answers appreciated in advance!

I bought 2 of these (I have 2 vents) in the smoke color. Love them. Easy to install, they keep rain out and let air circulate very well.

The style of vent cover will be dictated by the vent. If it's a powered vent like a bathroom (small fan), any cover will work. If it's a large fan like a "fantastic fan" then the larger opening is needed for proper airflow.

I have installed many Camco, max air and max air II covers, I can say the max air II are the easiest to install and allow for servicing the vent/lid without removal.

I have 4 roof vents in my Cougar. Two are not powered and two have Fantastic 4000R (3 speed reversible) fans. I installed CAMCO vents that I bought for $19 at WalMart. While there are many styles of covers and with some fans, it makes a difference, for the basic "OEM" style vent and a "upgraded basic reversible fan", there aren't a lot of reasons to buy the expensive brand. Once you get into some of the "high performance" fans (over $200 or so) then having the increased venting area may make a difference, but for the "run of the mill fan", if you install the vent cover far enough back on the vent, even the "cheap cover" will give you good performance and stop rain from entering an open vent.

My unpowered vents have the Original MaxxAir covers. My Fantastic Fan has a MaxxAir Fanmate cover for high airflow.

My previous RVs had Maxxair covers, my current 5er has the Aero-Flo covers. Personally, they both work about the same. If I didn't know what was up there, I wouldn't know there was a difference from the past covers.

All my standard vents have white, Maxxair covers. They work as advertised.

My ACs are black so when CW had the dark Maxx Air II on sale with $16 install I had them do it. Three vents made install less than $50. No need to buy sealant or climb on the roof made that amount cheap.

Our Cougar came equipped with a Max-Air vent cover located on the bathroom vent. Worked as advertised. The slotted plastic mounting flanges began to crack after about 2 years - had to employ s.s. fender washers to keep the fasteners from pulling through the slots. Replaced the vent cover with a Camping World cover (don't know the manufacturer - has CW logo). This cover has side vents as well as the rear face being vented. The biggest difference is the mounting flanges are twice as thick as those on the Max-Air. Seem to be sturdier - time will tell. The price was about the same.

Now that is the way to do it! $16 install can't be beat!

They're actually pretty easy to install. Take the $48 and buy something fun like ammo or dinner.

That's for sure !!! For those who haven't yet done it, the installation comes down to making sure it's in the correct location, drill 4 small 1/8" holes in the side of the "vertical metal flange" on the existing vent, install 4 stainless steel screws and tighten "hand tight" with a Phillips screw driver. Move on to the next vent. After doing one, the rest take less than 10 minutes each. Most "critical" (no not life threatening, just un-nerving) step is deciding where to drill the first hole. After that, the rest is just putting together a 12 piece "jigsaw puzzle"......

The hardest part was getting the ladder set up next to the trailer and putting away the tools (drill, bit, screwdriver and wrench) when finished......

I've done one a few years back. I like to save money, but getting my bad knees up on the roof to crawl around makes it interesting. I'm sure that I'll wind up doing it myself. New ammo or dinner.....well that sweetens the pot!

Thank you all for your ideas and help. That is what about being in this forum.

We have Fantastic Fans so we used Fantastic smoke colored vents.

We like the covers because in the heat of summer you can crack open vents and the hot air will be drawn out while traveling so takes little less time to cool down when you arrive.
