Fresh water tank

I have an outback 340bh and will be taking it out next week. The place I'm going doesn't have water hook up at site. I know I would normally use the tank fill however there isn't a fill opening on my trailer. I've included a picture. There is a blue toggle that has city and tank fill. Point to which you are using. Then below is a hose hook up, next to that is a vent. When I bought at the dealer they claimed to just fill it through the vent if I'm using gravity fill. Seemed funny to me and when I questioned the again they swore by it. Any help?

Hi. The blue lever has two positions. Look into the box you pictured and it will have markings for city and tank fill. Point it towards the tank fill and hook up a drinking water hose and watch your sometimes reliable gauge. The marking may be on the cover but it will surely be the position it is not in now.

Good luck, you won’t find one. The only other option is to pour water through the tank vent, very slow.

buy a small water pump for RVs at harbor Freight and use two short sections of garden hose ... one to connect to city fill and other sticks into your water jug, etc... Runs off 12 vdc...

Or fill up at a gas station/faucet in the campground, then pull to your site with a "full FW tank"...

Thanks for the info. I didn't even think of getting a pump like that or filling before I park the tt.

May I ask what issue you have that you do not want to use a hose to fill it?

It not that I don't want to fill it with a hose it's that I was going somewhere that doesn't have onsite water and I don't want to travel with a full water tank due to the extra weight

There is a screen washer in that vent opening that can be removed so you can insert a small tube or hose to fill the tank. Just don't forget to replace it when you are finished.

I was only able to get mine 2/3 full when filling thru vent. So I bought a pump which replicates what I have for my freshwater. That way I have an exact replacement if the original freshwater pump fails. Now I can go thru my city valve for my freshwater tank using the spare pump.

A NFS CG where we often stay there are water faucets about every 4 or 5 sites. We found a faucet about 150 feet from our usual site so we carry 175 feet of hose with us. We use the Zero degree hose marked as potable water use as it stores in a small container. We also carry a "Water thief" for use where some faucets are not threaded for a hose.

Hook a hose to your winterizing inlet, drop it in your water container, then hook a hose from your outdoor faucet to your city water inlet. Turn outdoor faucet on, Turn valve to tank fill, turn winterize valve on, turn your trailer’s water pump on. Simple, eh?

I also use the harbor Freight pump, works great. I wired the pump to a 7 pin plug that is used on trailer wiring so i can plug pump into trailer hook up on truck with a long cord.

All this conundrum makes me glad I have just an old fashioned gravity fill.

if you don't want to travel with a full water tank then you are limited.

A hose where you can fill your tank just before you get to your campsite would be the best way, or at least the easiest.

No kidding!!!!

So many reasons not go update. Love my 2012 28RBS.
1 Would lever fill a tank with a funnel and small hose.
2 Hate stabilizers that you must fully level your camper before using what should be Jacks.
3 ALL the troubles with In-Command
4 ALL the troubles with the Key-TV and new antennas that dont work.
5 Poor quality woodwork IMHO

All these pro's and we resort to a funnel and hose---SLOWLY

We just camped last weekend with our outback and loaded 30 gallons at the state park and ran out 2 1/2 days later. Lucky our site was 200 feet away from a water faucet and loaded another thirty gallons for the next three days. Seems like boondocking out in the Arizona desert might be a challenge for us.

I have a HF 12 volt pump that I wired to work in the trailer socket and also added an ON/OFF switch to. I also carry a 45 gallon water bladder that works great for hauling water out to the rig when out in the desert. I lay it in the bed of the truck with the tailgate down and it doesn't move with it full of water. What's nice about the bladder is, it folds up to a small package so it doesn't take up much room in the pass through. We do have the gravity fill port on our rig in addition to the option to fill with the city water connected and can turn the power fill valve to fill the tank.
