Gas Strut Replacement on Power Awning

I have a weak gas strut on our Dometic 9100 Series Power Awning. Has anyone had to replace one of these? I have sent an email to Dometic Customer Service since the strut is not listed on their replacement parts list and have not received a response.

I had a gust of wind catch my awning and bend the front arms. I was told by two dealers that I would have to buy the whole arm assembly at a cost of $270.00. They said seperate parts were not available for the power awnings only manual ones. The cylinder has a lot of pressure and it took my son and I both to install it. "Watch your fingers". I have talked to other campers that said they have bought replacement cylinders at their local auto parts store.

Holiday World in Houston ordered the strut today after talking to Dometic for warranty information and clarification on the Gas Strut Repair Kit. The part would have cost $26.39 plus shipping.
