Underbed Storage Advice Requested
Our Summerland has the "RV Queen" bed. That is fine. We replaced the mattress with an 8" memory foam that is extremely comfortable, especially considering it is only 8 inches thick! My question is this: I want to use the storage area under the bed, but our bed doesn't have the struts/pistons to help open the bed, and I am not about to dissemble the bed every time I need to get underneath. Can anyone suggest a good set of pistons/struts to install on the bed? Our bed is hinged about 2' from the head of the bed, so only about 50" of bed board (is that the correct terminology?) and most of the piston sets I've found on Amazon, etc LOOK as though they would fit, but I'm sure there must be others who have added the lift support. I don't have buckets of money, either, so have to keep the expense as low as possible.
Suggestions are solicited and welcome!

Debra, BTDT. It's late now but if your platform already has the hinges up front and is meant for underbed storage let me try to take a pic of how ours is set up. I thing it won't take much of nothing to put those supports or struts in. It will take a bit of work, a drill, screws etc. but my thinking is; struts $25; wood/screws $10. You will need to have a saw, drill etc.

You could just re-purpose an old broom handle to hold up the bed.

Thank you VERY much! I know my mattress is only 40#, but when I'm trying to get under the bed, it feels like 10 times that much. Very difficult for an elderly woman with physical limitations. The hatchlift pistons would do the job quite nicely!
Again, thank you!

It is this old lady trying to get it up in the first place! You'd think I was Atlas trying to hold up the world - or pick it up, at any rate.

I too replaced my original RV king. The original struts stayed firmly down when closed, and kept the lid entirely raised when opened, as they should.
When we installed the high quality, heavier mattress, I replaced the original struts with these, which were the same brand as the OEM, but stronger. I ended up with a bed that "floated in zero G" when lowered (no big thing, since it doesn't affect lying on it) but did not hold itself up like before when raised -- though they did relieve a lot of the weight. Clearly, I could never make this work properly by selecting a different power; I would have to change the geometry, which was beyond me. So I'm living with it. I just fabbed a PVC "post" to wedge it open for extended housekeeping.
