Slideout in Cougar 26RBI

We have had ongoing problems with the couch/dinette slideout in a Cougar 26RBI. The top pulley has pulled out on more than one occassion. Camping World says they will fix it, but I am concerned going forward. Has anyone had experience with this situation? I am thinking this sllidout is too long and too deep and the trailer can't deal with the weight well.

Is this what pulled off the wall?

Ours did not pull out, but I noticed that it was deforming the wall since there is only a thin piece of aluminum behind the paneling.

I took care of it myself by anchoring the pulleys to an aluminum plate that attaches to the top wall tubing and the tube above the slide opening. I did both sides:

The top screws are noticeable only if you look for them above the slide trim.

Slideout in Cougar 26RBI

That is exactly where it was. Camping World came out this morning and added an aluminum plate, not as large as yours, but it did appear he got into the meat this time. We're heading out for a bit and he told us to drop off the trailer after our trip and they would go over the entire setup once more to make sure the situation is permanently fixed. Naturally, we're hoping it is.

I see you have a ProPride hitch. I have been looking at those and Hensley and trying to decide if they are worth the price and if you get more peace of mind.

Thanks for responding.

If funds are not an issue, definitely worth it especially if you want to have fatigue free towing on long trips.

Nice fix on the slide pulley fix. The slide is long enough on my Passport that I can't reach to adjust some of the cables.

I remounted the top trim with hidden screws so it is easy to remove to make adjustments.

BTW: after the plate mod, adjustments are not required as often. Part of my spring prep list.

I'm confident that if I ever have to use the manual override on the slide I will have to remove all the trim around the slide too.

How did you locate the tubing behind the wall, and did you thread that tubing? What kind of fasteners did you use?

I want to do the same, especially with my motor mount as it is not in straight which causes issues on the chain.

I would like to "tune up" all of this on my living room slide-out this winter.

I have a 26RBS but have not had problems with slide. Is this slide similar? Where exactly is the pulley part located so I can inspect mine?

To find the aluminum tubes to attach to, I used a stud finder to get a sense for where the tubes would be. Then I drilled 1/16 diameter holes under where the plate would cover then until I found the edge of the tubes.

There is not enough material to thread the tubes. I guesstimate that they only have a .030 wall thickness. I used #12 sheet metal screws.

I hope this helps.

With your slide retracted (pulled in), look for the pulley assembly near the top corners of the slide opening in the TT wall.

If you have the pulley assembly, feel around the area with your hand for any evidence that the pulley assembly is deforming the wall. Your hand is much better at detecting anomalies than your eyes.

Let us know what you find.

Apparently my unit does not have the pulley system. It has toothed steel rails underneath the slide.

I believe there is a keystone service bulletin on certain units about the screws pulling out like yours did. Dealers can fix in some fashion. I like the steel plate approach .

I can assure you that, yes, you must remove the slide facia to access the slide motor mechanism. It's pretty easy to do as those screws covers are really snaps and come right off. Had to do this 2 times on a recent 8,000 mile trip to access different cables on my kitchen slide.

Btw, add a cable repair kit, or 2, to your tool bag. You're eventually going to need it.

I believe the SB was for the screw at the chain to cable interface.

Slide out pulley repair

Did you remove the pulleys from the wall with the slide all the way in? I need to perform the same repair and wasn't sure if it was safe to remove the pulleys without supporting the slide.

The slide will not fall out when extended to work on the pulleys.
