Trojan Batteries Install...

Ever since I got the new Toy Hauler and it came with one 12V Interstate battery, I've been reading and researching a bit about going with the two battery system for some additional battery reserve. So last weekend, I finally bought two Trojan T105's and a new battery box and did the install. I bought the Century Plastics side by side battery box (GCE-G) from Allbatterysalesandservice.com and the Trojans were sourced locally from a battery supplier here in the Knoxville area. I probably went a little overboard with the jumper wire to hook the battery up for the series connection, as I used a short piece of 2/0 welding cable, but hey, for $2.68/ft for the cable, it was perfectly OK.

After visiting the local CAT scales a few weeks back, and finding out that with my toy hauler loaded the way it is when we are headed out for a track day weekend, I discovered that I had almost exactly 10% tongue weight on the truck. I did have some towing issues on my first trip out with the trailer wanting to sway a bit and after doing some experimenting with shifting loads and lowering the front of the trailer a bit, it towed better, so there was a perfect excuse (like I needed one) to be able to add some more weight to the front of the trailer. With the new setup for batteries and moving a little more weight to the front of the trailer, I am now at approx. 11% tongue weight on the truck, plus I ended up lowering the front of the trailer via moving the ball down about an inch. The draw bar that I have is adjustable, so I moved the hitch head down and retorqued the bolts.

So hopefully, I have killed two birds with one stone in this matter.....more tongue weight for better stability, and a lot more reserver battery power by having much better batteries for the trailer.

Two GC batts and LED lights make an incredible difference.

I hope so. I think there are only two incandescent lights in the entire trailer. One i never use, and one that is in the vent hood over the stove. Everything else is LED.
