2012 Fuzion M-399

Hey everyone!
We are in the process of purchasing a 2012 Fuzion toyhauler.
We will be towing it with a 2001 Dodge Ram 3500 dually automatic 2wd.
We had the transmission rebuilt and upgraded from an e47 to an e48
with a heavy duty 3 disc converter, and an Edge EZ 3 stage programmable chip.
We also upgraded the rear differential from the original 3-55's to 4-10 gearing.
We upgraded the front suspension to Moog heavy duty springs and Blistien shocks.
The truck came originally with the heavy duty tow package (camper special) which included the extra cooling system, basically 4 radiators.
We have had in the past numerous class a motorhomes, most recently a 2006 Southwind 39ft.
We toured the country in a 1999 Beaver Contessa diesel pusher and have had a couple of class c's.
We started out in the mid '70's with an old 22 ft Winnebago Brave.
We have had 3 different fifth wheels, including a kit patio hauler, a Thor and a smaller Layton.
Don't care much for the bumper pulls.
With my husband being a 100% disabled Veteran, I will be doing most of the hitching and un-hitching and driving. I would rather drive a pickup than a Class A, for some reason.
We will be using an Anderson 5th wheel to gooseneck adapter.

Welcome to the forum

Sounds like you’ve done a lot to your truck. I’ve pulled fivers since 1989 and wouldn’t consider anything else. Looking forward to hearing about your travels. Tell your husband THANK YOU for his service.

Welcome to the form, and thank you to your husband for his service.
That is a lot of 5er for your 2001 Ram 3500. Looking at what you have done to your 2001 Ram, I don't see an exhaust brake in the list. Your looking at towing a 5er with a dry weight of 13,880# and a GVWR of 18,000#, no way would I want to tow that much weight without an exhaust brake on that 2001.
When I was towing 13,000# with our 2001 Ram 2500 I installed a PacBrake exhaust brake it was a big help.
Just for reference here is the towing guide pages out of the owners manual on our 2001 Ram.

Hello and welcome to the forum!

I would also like to thank your husband for his service, and wish him the best.

Sounds like you've done some great mods to the Ram, and IMHO, installing 4.10 gears was among the best.

As Russ mentioned, an exhaust brake would be a very wise investment.

Take care, and enjoy!

Thanks everyone for your suggestions. We also had 4 inch turbo back exhaust with a low restriction muffler to hold down the decibel level. But we will look into the exhaust brake.
We are also looking for a radio upgrade in the truck to accommodate the backup camera in the fuzion. Would like Bluetooth, Sirius, and perhaps GPS. Any suggestions?

You mentioned an upgraded transmission if it has a lockup TC you should be able to add a turbo mounted PacBrake, the plus to that is you also get on board air!

I would get a stand alone rv gps it will take into account the height of your rig ... the radio will be much cheaper without gps
