Toilet Paper

Okay, we're new to RV'ing and have a TP question.
Is "Septic Safe" toilet paper as favorable to use as "RV Safe-rapid dissolving"
It's shi**y question, but I gotta ask.

Here's what "WE" do... use the kind of toilet paper we like.. if you want to see if it will break down... get you a pickle jar or mason jar and put 3 or 4 sheet of your favorite in the jar, fill with water and give it a shake... then set it aside and come back in a couple of hours.. shake it again... if the paper breaks up... you're good to go..

And seriously the main problem with paper in the black tank is the amount of water you use... not the paper brand. Especially with the flush-out systems we have today..

We use the same as in the S & B, just use a lot of water. Have for 20 years without an issue.

Howdy John:
So DW and I always use Septic Safe as it is more Bum friendly.
Really though I think the answer is more about keeping enough water in your black tank. Also don't park with the black tank hooked up, but rather keep it closed and only empty when near full, making it more likely that you'll flush paper out of the tank. Water in the Black tank is your friend.

The best paper to use is the one Mama likes!
If you don't mind spending more for little tiny rolls buy the rv tp. Otherwise buy septic safe or whatever the DW likes at home & use plenty of water.

Just a tip.. the Black tank flush system in these trailers are not really adequate for the job at hand although they are better than nothing.

Get you one of these and it'll save you a lot of headaches down the road..

First off it is a way to control the flow as a safety item...

Second, I use mine to equalize the bath and galley tanks so I don't have to use the portable dump tank as often when camping without sewer hookup..

Third, it will let you flush the gray tanks and clean out all the old dried food and other stuff.. https://www.etrailer.com/RV-Waste-Va.../F02-4350.html

And when your anti-siphon valve on the BT Flush starts leaking it's pretty simple to replace it with this 2-90` elbows and a short piece of PEX.. then get a hose-bib anti-siphon valve and put it on your flush hose..

We did once, "Just once". You have to use too much. We did what Javi said and found out that most septic safe TP breaks down about the same. Another thing we do is after dumping the black tank and running the Flush-O-Matic With the drain valve still open we fill the toilet bowl almost to the top with water and flush it about ten times. I use a clear connection and you'd be surprised how much more comes out.

Not so much the paper....water, water, water! Be sure and run a few gallons into the tank after you dump and before 1st use.

FWIW we use the 2 ply RV toilet paper sold at Truevalue or Walmart.

I'm under strict orders.
I usually do a good flush after our last night of the trip. Then put a fair amount of water in the tank with a lot of Dawn and Downey liquid fabric softener. Let it agitate all the way home.

Most people tend to not use enough water in black tank starting off... then fail to keep tank increasing the water.
Don’t dump but once... then always keep deodorizer and at least 5 gallons or 1/4 full, even on the road or at home. Anything left behind will stat soft and breakdown. If you drain dry and leave it, then anything left behind will become like cement.
A Black Tank will last a few weeks, so you don’t have to dump at every camp.
Let it ride or dump and refill... you must keep that black tank with plenty of water. A regular RV toilet flush just doesn’t put that much water in. Especially the heavy TP users.

And NEVER USE Flushable Wipes or Septic Safe Wipes in you RV toilet.

You must have a gigantic black tank for it to last "a few weeks"?
Our last 5er had a large black tank with only 2 of us fulltiming & a week, at most 10 days, before needing to dump.

I have a 49 gallon and we've never come close to filling it in 10 days. Wouldn't really matter if we had because we stay in full hookups only.
