Slide out out of sync.

2019 Cougar 22 ft Half ton ....

Went to retract today and top of slide fully retracted but bottom was still 3 inches out. Extended the slide and this time all was fine when I retracted it. ANY IDEAS?

Overloaded circuit breaker or a weak circuit breaker Or something else.

Did the slide "just stop"? No noise? No unusual sounds or jerking? If that's the case then I'd suspect the 12 vdc circuit breaker is getting weak. They will interrupt the circuit and if there's an issue i.e. corroded wire terminals, weak battery/low voltage condition the amp draw will increase causing the breaker to trip. The breaker then will automatically reset when it cools down. These breakers typically look like Leggo Blocks and come in different amp ratings. The ones on my camper are 30 amp and mounted to the front A frame, yours may be different.

The battery is one month old and the trailer was hooked up to shore power. Yes the slide stopped when the top contacted the side wall but there wasn’t any “ratcheting” gear noise because the bottom of the slide was still 3 inches out.

Since you have 3 inches to go at the bottom I suspect you need to have your slide adjusted, With 3 inches to move at the bottom you are overloading the circuit breaker. What kind of slides you are using?

Don’t know but the two large gear tracks are on the bottom underneath the slide

The fact that it stopped and did not make any noise would make me think the issue was electrical and not mechanical. My slides are rack/pinion style and both tilt when deploying at the end of the travel out and when nearly fully retracted. f the circuit is interupted near the end of either travel it will appear to be "out of kilter". I'd suggest finding out the amp rating of the breaker and replace it and keep a spare. They are typically < $10 and WILL fail eventually.

Also, the battery being 1 month old doesn't mean it's in good condition. Secondly, having shore power connected doesn't make up for a bad battery. It just can't supply enough amperage.

If the battery is less than ideal, this can cause a drop in voltage when the heavy load is applied, which can result in higher than usual current - which can trip the breakers.

All this to say - don't assume the battery is not at fault. If possible, remove it and have it load tested.

Thanks to all that replied to my question.

After contacting Keystone last week I found that it is a Lippert single motor system. We have now been on the road for four days and haven’t had a problem even when we stop at a rest area for lunch and deploy the slide.

Hopefully I haven’t jinxed myself by saying all is well 😎😎😎
