I'm OK......now

Y'all remember my story about passing out back in September. I've been light headed and almost passing out since then. So I went to cardiologist Dr. Perin at Texas Heart Institute. I was diagnosed with 2nd degree AV Block Type 2. Basically an electrical issue. Dr. Perin referred me to the "Electrician" Dr. John Seger Cardiologist Electrophysiologist. I got a pacemaker Thursday, went home Friday. Hopefully this fixes it. My pacemaker is transmitting to my iPhone and that is transmitting to the doctor. The Operating Room looked like NASA...2 docs, the Medtronics sales rep, probably 8 nurses, and I lost count at 12 large LED TV type monitors.
Very thankful to have the worlds best heart doctors here. Legacy of Dr. Denton Cooley and Dr. Michael DeBakey.

Brent glad to hear you have hopefully found the cause and the cure. It certainly doesn't hurt that you are near some of the best docs anywhere in the world. Keep in mind that pacemaker is affected by LOTS of outside mechanicals so be aware and careful. Hopefully it gets you up and running right.

Hopefully found the cause. I have some post-op pain and some chest pounding that concerns me but will talk to the doc tomorrow.
The newer pacemakers aren't as sensitive as older ones. I can even have a MRI. Actually I'm going to have a Mitochondrial DNA MRI in February. There are hints that this can be inherited from the females in the family (thus mitochondrial).(A nugget of knowledge from studying DNA genealogy)

I am glad to hear you took it seriously and had it taken care of!

My Dad (84) had a similar issues a couple of years ago and it led to a stroke. He had excellent care and after time in the hospital, rehab and a pacemaker like the one you got he fully recovered and was cleared to drive after only 3 months. The docs can monitor and make adjustments remotely, so it’s pretty cool in that regard.

Best of luck for continued good health!

Excellent news!

My mom ended up with a pacemaker a few years back and it has helped her get loads of energy back.

I hope this helps you get back to normal

This reminded me of my dad's response after he had a cell phone info pacemaker implanted. He compared it to the Kayak TV commercial https://www.ispot.tv/ad/7YDc/kayak-brain-surgery
where the surgeon controls the movement of the patient. He forever told my mom that the doctor's office was controlling his urge to go golfing and he had no control over it.
We're all glad that you're back on the mend. Good members are hard to find and who besides George are going to buy me a beer or two if I visit Texas this summer?

I’m happy to hear you are doing well now! Take it easy for at least a few more day (or weeks!)

Although, the “had surgery Thursday and went home Friday” just makes me shake my head. Our son has had 4 open heart surgeries so far - each time he was in the hospital for at least a week. Hubby had DBS surgery a couple of years ago - they sent him home the next day and told me to watch for clear drainage from his ears because it might be cerebrospinal fluid.

I’m sorry, but if you get a pacemaker (which I guess I’m assuming means they cracked your chest open), or they drill into your head, they should really keep you longer than one day!!

Lynette makes an observation that I think we all need to think about if nothing else; in one day and out the next.....

strangely after the advent of this virus things have changed dramatically as far as surgeries; recuperation; rehab etc. so be careful IMO. I've had 7 knee surgeries, 3 complete replacements, one removal to wait "for better times"; none were "in today and out tomorrow" and shouldn't be. Good friend in MI had knee replacement a couple of weeks ago; in one day, out the next - no space. We are aware of other examples but just keep in mind that the current environment, IMO, isn't really tilted toward the patient but more toward the "get them out and get a space" mentality.

I had my choice of going home the night of the surgery or staying over 1 night. Because my surgery was late in the day I decided to stay 1 night.
I did not have general anesthesia, just sleepy time IV. I was somewhat aware of what was going on.
No they don't drill a hole in your brain or do a grand opening on your chest. I have a 2" incision on my upper left chest where they slipped the pacemaker in my chest tissue.

My son had his replaced and he said the same thing; he was basically awake for the procedure. Maybe yours is like his; when his battery gets low the unit plays a tune. Said it is very weird to hear music coming out of his chest....

Must have been an option. LOL
I was told mine will beep and I will have about 2 months to get a new battery.
