I keep a 5 gallon bucket with 6inch of water in it with a "Walk the plank" setup on it. Bait with peanut butter. I place the bucket next to one of the tires.

Advantages: No poison, resets itself, get the critters OUTSIDE your RV.

On a 10day dry camp trip last year in the National Forest I got 72!!!!!!!!

I did this & surprise, the rodents ate the Irish Spring.
There were chew marks & pieces missing from every one.

"Try Irish Spring bar soap. We put several bars around the tailer and so far no mice. Plus camper smells good. Will last a long time and you have plenty for a bath."

I've used Fresh Cab for years and never had an issue until this year. No changes in what's been done, where it is, or anything else that I can tell. About a month ago I saw signs of mice being in the camper. Placed 6 traps in the camper and a few days later I checked and a family of four checked out.

Could it be the Chinese Year of the rat: January 25, 2020 – February 11, 2021?
When I started having to replace clearance light wiring because of the little buggers, I investigated Fresh Cab. I was amazed at the number of comments that all said the same thing: those customers' experiences were that the scent of the stuff actually attracted rodents more than repelled them. From the repetition of exactly this comment, I came to the conclusion that there are some rodent subspecies that can't stand the odor, and others that apparently thrive on it. Since I had no way of knowing what subspecies my homegrown rodents are, I just passed on the product entirely.

And for that purpose it doesn't have to be rv antifreeze, obviously your not worried about hurting them!

Other than standard glycol antifreeze can be toxic for dogs and other animals.

I see an image of an RV'er in a state park campground with a 5 gallon bucket half full of automotive antifreeze and a "spinning stick" on the rim as the game warden stands there writing a ticket for trapping wildlife, the EPA is there writing a ticket for having an environmental hazard from disposing of dead mice contaminated with antifreeze in the campground trash barrel and a sherrif's deputy is there with a summons to serve, from a lawyer representing the camper in the next site whose dog ate the mouse covered with antifreeze and had to be rushed to the vet for emergency care.....

While the "idea of protecting the trailer from invading mice while camping in the outback (pun intended)" it's likely the implications of "just doing it" aren't very well thought out in this thread.....

There's a reason I'm reluctant to put poison in my pole barn to kill the mice... It's the family of bald eagles that live and feed on the acres behind our house and the foxes and owls that help keep the mouse population down so there's only a few in the pole barn rather than hundreds, if the owls and foxes were poisoned by dead mice from me "protecting" my pole barn... YMMV

To piggyback on John's comments a lot of people don't understand the food chain in nature. We have a nephew in Colorado who's a Forest Ranger. He said that many folks would get upset when he would write up tickets for throwing an apple core or banana peel out the window. They will argue that's it's food and will decompose therefore it's not litter. He told us that when he explained that the apple core in the road or beside it will attract rodents. When the rodent is eating it he's vulnerable to prey so a snake, hawk, eagle, etc. will be attracted to the prey. That's when they get hit by the truck or car going down the road. He said if he sees the "light go off" that the driver understands it he won't give them a citation but the folks that come off PO'd about beiong stopped typically get several citations.

John,

Since I am the one who first brought up the use of a 5 gallon bucket with a Walk the plank device in this thread..... I encourage you to go back and re-read my post ..... then you will find that it is "very well thought out"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for completely blowing the subject completely out of proportions.

You were "the first to bring it up" but later in the thread, your "idea" was extended to use during camping (on a camping trip)... There comes a time when what one does "in storage" and what one does "while camping" need to be differentiated. What's OK in your back yard is not necessarily OK in Yellowstone National Park.... So, quite possibly, what you're looking at is entirely different from what I identified... Then again, maybe not. At any rate, few things are "as innocent in every situation as initially thought"..... YMMV

I know some say it does not work but I use battery operated frequency repellants and I have yet to have a mouse in my trailer. I have the plug in style for the summer when it has shore power and the battery powered ones for the winter. I change the batteries once in January as I get about 4 months on them. I also have glue traps but there has never been any traces of mice or droppings. I am in Manitoba and the RV is parked at a seasonal site all winter and is hard to get to in the offseason. Just went last week and all was good. I bought them on Amazon and they were fairly inexpensive.

If you have any more information about which one from Amazon.... There are 5 or 6 pages of battery operated sonic mouse repellent and they all say that they're the best. If you have one that works, knowing which it is will shorten the search.....

Not for nothing but using a product and never seeing a mouse is not empirical evidence to its efficacy. If mice were present then the product is utilized and there were no further evidence then I'd say it works.

As fast as they reproduce they sure aren't an endangered species!
