Civil Disobedience

Our out of state camping reservations were canceled by the campground due to their state’s overly restrictive Covid rules. I sort of understand the reasoning, but limiting campground occupancy to 25% and banning non-residents seems like over-reach to me. I mean, what about camping in a fully self-contained RV in a rural wooded campsite isn’t already socially distant? So we went with plan B instead. We still went out of state, but found a spot on a 7 acre piece of land and set ourselves up for the weekend. Awesome views, beautiful weather and the dogs love being able to roam freely.

I’m watching TV right now, lots of people on both sides of the argument. Private CG’s open. Tahoe still imposing a $1000.00 fine for non residents. Poll Or says 95% of People feel travel is too soon. I don’t know if that’s national or just this state.

Over the last few days we completed our plans for 7 days on the road headed to northern Wisconsin. Only had one small bump in the road, Pearl Lake in northern Illinois. They aren't allowed all of a sudden to open until 1 June. They called DW, refunded the money, and said "See ya next time." Which they will! We've stayed there over Memorial Day for years and it is a wonderful place to stay. Even better if you have kids.
Every place we called had space and were open.

I saw a "one minute news feature" on TV last night. It seems that "RV-America" and one other "mini-home rental company" are experiencing "record breaking reservations" for this summer. The reporter said that the reason for the increased business is the desire for more than the normal number of American families to want to "socially distance" while on vacation this summer. So, they're renting a Class C rather than staying in resorts or motel/hotels during their summer vacations.

If they're renting more motorhomes, they'll be occupying more campground sites, so this summer may turn into a "record breaking camping season". No doubt, campgrounds will be busy and campsites harder to find in "touristy areas"...

I told the DW this would happen. Same thing after 9-11. Many families were afraid to fly or go overseas. RV sales went wild and CGs were booked full for a long time. The first time the cost of fuel went wild after that put a damper on things.
