February 1 I was paying $2.189 per gallon for diesel in Gaylord. Today it was $3.099 with the 3 cent discount at WalMart using their gift card as payment.

Reminds me of the "Denver 1972 gas shortage"... My DW worked at the EXXON TBA warehouse in west Denver. There was a 2 or 3 day "murmur of pending gas shortages"... then, one Thursday morning, suddenly the pipeline into Denver from Kansas "went dry"... Lines formed at every gas station, limits of 10 gallons per customer, prices tripled, then the even/odd rules... Then, by the following week, stations were closed with "NO GAS" signs on every pump....

Strange part, at least to me, is the pipeline formed a "T" in Arvada and ran north, along the front range to Wyoming and south to New Mexico. There were "gas wars" in Raton and Cheyenne, the final destination of the pipeline. Cheyenne and Raton had so much gas they couldn't give it away, but the source (Denver) was "dry with critical shortages".... Two weeks later, the problem was solved....

The "problem"... Test run to see how people react to gas shortages... The following year, if you remember, was the nationwide gas shortage where prices tripled for everyone and the "national 55 MPH speed limit was imposed on everyone, everywhere..... That was in 1973.

Enough "history"... this one is, so they say, a "real cyber attack". Denver was a "mechanical pump problem"....

What was the source for this? I live in Maryland and I don't think 22% is accurate. Baltimore news stations have been reporting 8%. Not that I put alot of credebility in any of it.

Fuel prices have always amazed me. Get off I 95 at rt 43 White Marsh. Turn east to US 40 there's a ROFo with good prices. Turn west about an equal distance and the Exxon station is always AT LEAST .50 a gallon more.

I refuled at the Shell station in Edgewood yesterday. $3.17 with fuel rewards and Gas Buddy I paid $3.05. No lines, no closures at the 12 or so stations that I passed on my journeys yesterday. I just checked Gas Buddy this a.m. and it reports deisel at that station at $3.22. I have to chuckle at the idiots filling up numerous cans and containers with all that ethenol blended fuel. I'm guessing some repair shops will be "reclaiming" some of that gas after flushing out the injectors and the rest of the system when they get around to using it. Panic is stupidity, you just can't fix stupid.

The average national price of gas in April 2020 was $1.77.

Whatcha think of where this is going as far as all of the US economy?

Now the local news is citing Gas Buddy reporting 31% of MD stations reporting shortages. At that rate they all should be closed by noon! We are heading to DE for 4 days. I told the house sitter that we may be a little late getting home if the golf cart we rented poops out on the way home.

We'll be at $4 or more per gallon by Christmas, interest rates will be in the teens and taxes will be at or above pre-2016 rates

In all probability the shortages of manufactured goods will accelerate well into 2022 and maybe beyond, before any easing is seen.. At least that's the forecasts I'm seeing from the major mills of carbon and stainless and the suppliers of molded goods and gypsum board.

As an update ..... Just returned from loading up camper. Passed the same Shell station that was $3.17 yesterday. Gas Buddy reported price as $3.22 this morning. I looked at the sign when I passed, it's still $3.17. So there's that.

Other stations were a low of $3.17 to a high of $3.27, most were around $3.21. And from my observations absolutely NO PUMPS BLOCKED OFF AND NO LINES. In fact, I was surprised at how light the traffic at the stations were. If you believe the hype then I guess the are here must be the exception.

The media "hype" is to CAUSE the panic buying and ensuing problems.

Gas Buddy is only as good as the individuals who are reporting the pricing and availability. You also have to watch the time/date stamp I've seen them be a week or more old..

I'm at a loss to understand what's going on with energy. Shell just sold Anacortes, WA and Mobile, AL refineries. I could be wrong but maybe all that's left is Deer Park TX and Norco, LA., both are integrated with large chemical plants. They just announced a major off shore discovery..Leopard, about 230 miles off Texas. I'm thinking they are letting environmental wackos scare them out of business. Those Dutchmen must scare easy. We are drowning in oil and nat gas. Used wisely we could reduce our emissions and insure the future for our kids. But...

You would be right but that wouldn't fit the current narrative. Hopefully someone gets some sense and understands reality before we are all shoved over the cliff - even if it is kicking and yelling.

The ripple effect from much higher transport costs has kicked in already as well as the lower production due the plague and the tiff with our Chinese trading partners. These factors are being exacerbated by the agenda of the Federal Government. I don't believe the Fed hemorrhaging dollars and attempting to wring those dollars from those who are job creators/producers will prove beneficial to the economy. This is a good time to pray for our leaders.
