Pin hookup

I just hooked up my 5th wheel for a trip and I’m questioning if it’s properly connected. I’ve unlatched 4 or 5 times now and there seems to be space under the pin latch. However the safety pin is in. The truck is a little sloped away from the trailer and I’m wondering if this has anything to do with it. Tug test is good. Is it me?
Thanks for your opinion.

Your locked in, go enjoy your trip. I would suggest getting a lube plate (disc) if you don’t have one. Eliminates the need for grease on the “horse shoe and pin box.

Wouldn't hurt to put a little grease on the pin and jaws too.

Kelly, you were correct in asking here before just heading out. I experienced roughly the same thing two years ago and experienced what the Demco tech called 'high-hitching.' The latch worked properly, the padlock went on, a small safety tug went fine, and when I pulled out and turned left it popped out, wrecked the tailgate, and luckily for everything else the pin caught on the Demco base and didn't hit the bed. $2000 later for a new tailgate I'm 100% smarter. I also agree that a nylon plate is superb, and a little spray white lube around the jaws etc will go a long way in operation.
