Bumper End Caps & 12V Fridge

We were at CW the other day to get new bumper endcaps. It turns out they had the most cost-competetive price for two: $5.49. These are "ventilated" - supposedly designed to allow air through and keep bugs out.

As long as we were there, we roamed around the lot (dangerous, I know). We went into a Cougar 1/2 ton 26RBS and noticed the fridge looked quite a bit larger than normal. It turns out it was a 12V GE (model GPV10FSNBSB) versus the Norcold advertised on the Keystone website. The fridge is rated at 13.5 amps at 12 volts. I did not think to look to see if there was an inverter or if it even could be powered during travel (although the inverter is an option with a solar package if I read their blurb correctly).

If it’s a 12V fridge it runs off the battery, not an inverter. I’ve seen that fridge and it cools down quick!!

By brother is picking up his new RV this weekend and it comes with a 10cf Furrion 12vdc fridge. It seems to be the way things are these days.

Memorial Day weekend our family group is camping at a State Park (no power), so it will be interesting to see if it will run for 3 days off the onboard battery(s) alone or if he needs to run a generator to top off the juice.

The two I saw in new units had 100W of solar on the roof.

I wanted to give an update on the 12v fridge in my brother’s unit. First, he loves how it cools. But he hates that it has a fan that runs constantly. In his floorplan, the fridge is right next to the bedroom wall and at night it’s pretty annoying. Lastly, even with two new group 24 marine batteries, the power drain is pretty steep and runs the batteries down quick.
