Ford lightning limitations

For anyone thinking of getting a lightning for a tow vehicle

For fairness I did just see this... I still wouldn’t tow with a electric vehicle https://electriccarnews.com/2021/05/...0lbs-of-cargo/

Jasin, you seem to have an 'unnatural interest in this Ford vehicle for some reason...

The only Ford I will be interested in is an F450for the future and maybe the bronco and possibly a Mach 1 mustang for the wife

No I just found it interesting the breakdown of actual towing miles.. it’s raining and cold in MD..boat is still on the hard because the boat yard didn’t finish waxing it ..just bored today

I do like the Mach 1

^^^ Well have I got a deal for you! Just drove around today looking (hoping) to see if any of the dealers were getting anything truck wise in that might be interesting (still wondering if I can sway myself toward a diesel . Lo and behold, after a long period of nothing interesting to see, there was a new Ford F450 dually sitting in a little lot surrounded by the sparse pickings of a couple of new ones and other used ones (mixing them as they seem to be doing nowadays). So there it was/is, that new F450 in real life....and,

forget that Mach I for the wife. My DD's co worker is retiring; just bought a new Shelby GT500 for HIS wife because she always wanted a "sporty" Mustang! 760HP sounds good but eh, it's still a Ford.... Jasin you only live once, might as well jump on them and go for it on a cold rainy day....you can easily spend money on those kinds of days as I can attest.

Yeah if anybody deserves a new vehicle it’s my wife. She happily watches me buy new vehicles for myself and I practically have to beg her to get a new vehicle for herself.. she had a challenger for a few years it was pretty fast and she liked it..had the Hemi and five speed but she has a little hard top convertible infinity now and she always talks about how nice the mustangs sound ...(they do have the exhaust sound figured out on mustangs). She puts up with a lot from me ..I’m no picnic

You sound a lot like me. DW lived with my full bore, hellfire bent ways for decades and did everything FOR me. About 20 years ago I said "it's her time". If she asks, she gets - but she doesn't ask for much as always; other than me to slow down and just "let" her if she wants these days - or MAKE her get stuff. I've pretty much quenched my hellbent ways that came at her cost IMO; it's her turn until I hit that "flashing stop sign". "She had me from hello" as a teen....

If I was in the market for an electric tow vehicle towing < 10,000 lb GVWR with a 300 mile range I would certainly consider it. But for now I am keeping my F350 Super Duty DRW to tow my 16,600 lb GVWR fifth wheel trailer and eyeing a F450 DRW for my next truck since I love the stability of the dually and diesel exhaust brake for towing downhill.

Me too! Every campground we visit has a high powered charging station for tow vehicles as I recall. If I use the pedestal 20A outlet, how long would it be before I was able to go into town for an ice cream cone? Do you really have 300 miles towing? Do you think Ford hooked up a fifth wheel and check how far they could go?

IIRC that 300 miles is empty, they don't get have specs for towing mileages or payload numbers.
My neighbor has the Mustang Mach E ordered due to arrive in a couple weeks? (it's already been over 10 weeks) that he paid for the 300 mile option. They stated that is under perfect conditions, level terrain, no heating/cooling & at a steady speed. Apparently they said that during braking it gives a small charge to the batteries, I'd guess somehow from the heat generated.
One hour of charging on a household 110 outlet nets 3 miles of travel, 36 miles for 12 hour charge. Charging at 220 volts doubles the charging = 72 miles in 12 hours. BUT if you buy their rapid charger kit for $800+ you can get full charge in a few hours.
We recently bought a new Kia Sorento 2.0l turbo which gets 30+ mpg with 17.7 gallon tank which 400-500 miles that can be refilled in about 3 minutes & gone. But while at the dealership they had 8-10 used Tesla's that folks apparently traded for a Kia.
I honestly think the EV craze will come & go like the Edsel, DeLorean, Kaiser & apparently Lordstown motors. Not to mention for all the tree hugger types out there with those that may be around long enough to need a battery replacement, what do they do with that dead battery?

Most articals I've read say towing reduces EV distance anywhere from 50% to 75% .Then recharging on a 120 vac 20 amp outlet could take several days. Used batteries? I saw a story on tv last week a company out in CA that's recycling them and refurbishing them.

It won't be long before y'all can leave Ford behind and start the usual with GM: From the Detroit Free Press "GM President Mark Reuss said in a statement. “The GMC Hummer EV SUV joins its stablemate in the realm of true supertrucks" Uh huh. The Hummer H2 and H3 were to the Hummer as an Urban Assault Vehicle was to an Abrams M-1.

Brian, Just a suggestion but when quoting a post with a lot of images you might want to delete them to save a little space on the server if using the images has no other value in your quote. Not trying to be over the top on this but we all saw the images the first time posted. Thanks wg

You can edit your own post but not other people's posts. If you quote a member, you can "edit that quote" within your post, but the original post will remain as the poster submitted it.

As for photos, you can remove the photos from a quote (or from your own post) by highlighting them and hitting the delete button.

You can edit a post to delete photos by clicking on EDIT, then "GO ADVANCED" (next to SAVE) and highlight the photos and click the delete button. Remember to "SAVE" your edit or the software will return it to your original post.
