Water heater

We recently purchased a 2018 sprinter campfire 26rb
It was taken to be de winterized at the dealer (we always used someone else with our old camper) so we asked what was done because at old place water heater was filled and the valves were set to start camping. When we picked our new camper up we were told after I called them that the way to check was to see if water comes out the outside Spicet. We did and only a small amount came out so she said that must've been from the flushing. When looking at the water heater from inside we just want to make sure the valves are placed into the open. Can anyone help.
Also we were told the switch in the outside under that part water heater was to turn on and off for electric use.
Sorry this new camper is a big upgrade from our old and the dealer ship was not helpful with all these questions

If you look in the travel trailer heading in the forum for the post "water heater not working", you will find some pics of the back of several water heaters showing the valve in fill mode. That valve needs to be horizontal to fill the heater as shown in the pic. I think Steveo57 had the pic, if the valve handle would have been vertical in that pic then it would be in bypass mode and not filling your water heater.

If you have a water heater that is both propane and electric, it is likely a Suburban 6SWDE model. You can check by opening the outside door and looking at the placard which has the model. If this is indeed a 6SWDE, fill the water heater by turning the bypass valve located inside the trailer at the back of the water heater into the position where it is pointing inline with the water pipe. This means it is open. After filling, open the pressure relief valve on the outside to remove air and you should get a few drops from the relief valve. Now shut the valve. Turn on the gas and if you have two tanks, make sure the one that was turned on has the fitting that allows flow in the proper position. Go to your stove and turn the gas on on the front burner by putting the stove in the pilot position (or highest amount of gas) and then use the igniter knob to light the stove. When it lights, you will know gas is flowing. Turn off the stove and turn on the water heater... there is a button on your control panel. This will light the water heater and you will hear a sort of woosh sound when it lights. After the little red light adjacent to the button goes out and the water heater is working as it should, you can go out and open the cover on the water heater. There is a small black electric switch on the bottom left which is more or less hard to see; you can turn it on. This is for the electric heating element. Make double sure you turn it off when not using the water heater or the water heater is empty as it will burn up the heating element. I loaded a .pdf which you may find helpful going forard. wg
