Tire size help

Greetings everyone,
New on the forum because my parents and I are being given a 2003 Keystone Hornet 27b. Finding exact specs that far back has been quite difficult to narrow down.
Does anyone have the OEM tire size for that model? From my research I believe them to be 205/75 15 D rated but would like a confirmation if possible as I am trying to get new tires ahead of time. Trying to get someone to take a look at them and send back info has not worked at this time.

There should be a sticker on the driver side front corner of the trailer with the tire information listed on that sticker. Let us know if this helps...

The sticker would be a place to start but without looking at the trailer there's no way to tell if someone upgraded tires/wheels in the last 17 years. I'm thinking that the tire size you mention might be right but in a 14" wheel vs 15".

Danny, The sticker that is mentioned is illegible in the extreme on my 2002. The easiest way would be for the OP to look on the side of the tire and get size and date code as the tires probably are in need of replacement; either aged out of just shot.

Keystone tire sizes and load capacities were selected to accommodate the axle maximum load. Do yours still have a sticker?

The OP asked for the OE tire size and confirmation of what it was. I suggested what the OE tire size might be but emphasized that in 17 years that could have changed. That in itself implies that the OP needs to look at the existing tires/wheels on the RV to see what they are.

Not sure about any specs for that trailer. Looked around and couldn't find any but the wheels will very likely be 14" or 15". I would say the OP will have to ASSUME the wheels were not swapped over the years but tire sizes may be a tad different as well as load rating. Tires in the smaller size generally have only a few alternatives I think so probably can't go wrong choosing ones with good load ratings. Date code is likely critical here... hope the tires weren't made many years ago.

If the specifications I found are correct (they aren't from the Keystone website, so they may not be accurate) the tires on that trailer were ST225 75R15 LRD (8 ply).

At the time of manufacture, most trailer manufacturers were not installing tires with any "excess capacity". It's only been within the last year that RVIA rules changed to require a 10% tire capacity above the anticipated tire load...

So, if I were to change out tires on that trailer, given it has 15" wheels, I'd install ST225 75R15 LRE tires and air them to 80PSI to achieve the maximum tire capacity. I would first inspect the wheels to be sure they are rated for that load (2830) and that pressure (80PSI)...

Given that we don't have the type of wheel (steel or aluminum) nor the age (possibly 17+ years old) or even the condition of the wheels (bent, rusted, corroded or in new condition) there's a lot more than just tire size/load rating to consider.....

Looking at older similar Hornet campers of the same era, all had 5 lug steel wheels that I saw (RVTrader.com). Looked to be the same wheels as I have on my camper and I do use 15" LRE @ 80 PSI.

What I found for that year trailer varied. I did find this for a 2007 27B which weighs just a little more than what I saw for a 2003. Note it still shows the 14" tires/wheels. OP needs to look at the trailer, or have someone do it, to verify what is there before buying any tires IMO - who knows what is right...?
