Mudflaps?

Do I need extra mudflaps for towing the fifth wheel with a dually? Never had a dually and wonder if they kick up more stones then a srw

Never owned a dually but twice as many rear tires would equal more rocks IMO. I tried running without them with a SRW and didn't matter much with cheaper trailers, some even had metal across the fronts, but as you pay more for them you hate to see those dings in that fiberglass. I don't particularly like the flaps that are screwed to the inside of the fender well so buy longer ones that are more like what you see on the rear of a semi trailer. Those with a dually will chime in with their experiences and preferences.

WeatherTech No Drill Mud Flaps - They seems to have bunches of different varieties custom made for specific trucks. Here is a video which compares them to Husky mud flaps... do you need them? Dunno but they are required on dual wheel trucks in Texas (like fire trucks) as we flunked safety inspections when one was missing:

Thanks! I didn’t consider that they may be required in some states....good to know. Will check out the video.weather tech makes quality stuff as far as I can tell

Most DRW trucks come with mud flaps, they should hang as close to the ground as possible.

My perception...I believe DOT requires mud flaps. Dealers don't know what you're going to do with the truck so they put mud flaps on them.
But those mud flaps make great big boards for the dealers.

Jasin I bought some flaps (Husky I believe?) that fit on your receiver hitch. I had a custom adaptation made to put in the receiver ($40) then attach the flaps. I pull the adapter part out of the receiver and hang it on the spare tire rack when I'm "hanging out". Never wanted the little flaps screwed in the fender well.

The ones on our Laramie hang pretty low. Then again don’t drive on too many gravel roads. I thought I had a better picture, but this seems to be the only one I have.

Check Etrailer or other RV parts places for the mud flaps that go into the 2" hitch receiver. i've several types, some solid and some that look like whisk broom fingers. That's the route I'd go.

Maybe not exactly what you are looking for since they are permanently mounted. But our 2019 Ford dually did not come with mudflaps, nor did Ford offer any for it. I bought Gatorback dually mudflaps (big, rubber, like on semis) and love them. Not the cheapest out there, but those buggers are durable and will definitely last!

Danny- I've been on the hunt for something like you describe. On, Off at will. I looked at Husky's website and found a set that is designed to bolt on to the frame inside wheel well but the flaps are removable leaving a round mounting pole behind until you need them again. Is this what you used and had a custom adapter made so that it's exterior behind the bumper? And again, on/off at will?

Well just looked at the Window sticker and the Ram build sheet for my Ram 3500 DRW and don't see Mud Flaps listed as an individual item. The ones on the Truck are Ram logo both front and rear. Could be a dealer installed item.

Tried a set of rock tamers ( they mount to the 2 inch hitch stinger) , couldn't keep them tight enough to not rub the bumper. They are now laying behind the shed. Installed a set of kickback duallies, love them.

Bill, I was headed to bed but did a quick search and did not find the mudflaps I have. They are similar to the ones in the link below but far nicer;

And I believe, if I recall, cost about 260 or so. Concept in the link is pretty much the same but execution and product are far nicer. Could not find a current Husky product. Rock Tamers are good too.

Thanks everyone! I’m gonna look for a decent set of receiver mount flaps.... probably rock tamer but will make sure they don’t rub on the bumper after installing.

The Rock Tamers or any similar style mud flap that used the receiver to mount will be far superior to any fenderwell mounted flaps.. I run a set of these and it does make a huge difference..

I’m going to order the Rock Tamers.. Javi do the dealers in Texas have to have the mudflaps already installed on new dually? I was just curious because in MD there isn’t much of a flap at all from the factory. And do you have to have them all the time in Texas or just towing?
