Generator Update

I posted a little while back about my 3000 Watt Dometic portable generator being replaced under warranty because of a defective carberator. The old one had worked good untill the problem, but it would not power my 15K roof air. To my surprise the new one not only runs the air but does so with ease. Dometic must have upgraded something in the the latest version, whatever it is I'm a happy camper. These units with an electric start are not as quiet as the honda 3000i, but they are acceptable in most circumstances, and they cost much less than half the price, even less than the honda 2000.

I just saw one at my local RV shop. The price is impressive. I keep hearing that it’s a rebranded Magna (or something like that). Given that I already have a Yamaha 2000, I’d opt to get a second one and a parallel kit. It’d cost more than the Dometic, but the parallel system would crank out quite a bit more power. However, if I knew about the Dometic first, I’d be tempted to get it.

I think that parallel setup is great. I shyed away because of the double maintenance, storage and everything else regarding having two gennys, but for power you got quite a bit at 4000 Watts.
