Hubs fell coming from the bedroom, down the stairs.
Has anyone placed a hand rail on the outer side of the wall, going into the bedroom ? Is there a stud system that can be utilized?

I took a second to look at the floorplan for your trailer and am going to guess you want to add a railing to the steps going down into the main cabin from the upper area. Some actually did this recently and posted a "how-to" and pictures.

See this thread:

I believe if I put a railing up, I would use a 1x4" finish board and fasten it to the wall going down and then a short railing to it. The board would give more attachment points because if the railing was grabbed, a couple of screws that hold a railing directly to the wall may not do the trick if someone was falling and tried to catch themself.
