Smile Broke black flush valve winterizing 2021

I had just finished winterizing my 240ours toy hauler last season and as i was closing the valve and pushing it home (T-Valve Handle) , it broke off in my hands.

WOW, well at least the black tank was clean and flushed!!

Small Miracles

Looking for some feed back as to others who have had this happen and how they went about fixing it.

I will probably replace the grey value one at same time as I am sure it will go as well in the future.

Looking for help on my future DIRTY JOB LOL

Welcome to the forum

There are 3 different valves so check first to make sure you order the right one.
Valterra BladeX- you must use BladeX
Valterra- you can use either Valterra or BladeX
Bristol- you must use Bristol

The valve will have name molded onto it. Bristol is easy to identify as it was waves molded onto it.

Chuckster, my handles are getting harder to open and close. Is there a way to lubricate them or is it just time to replace them? And how much should I expect to pay?

Pb blaster on the cable, shaft seems to help. Replacement would depend on labor rates. I would figure an hour for 1 valve, add .5 for each additional valve if they are next to each other.

Did the valve break or just the handle? I can read that both ways. If it's just the handle they are inexpensive and just screw on.

Did the valve itself break, or the stem of the T handle extension where it screws into the existing valve? That's right at the entrance where it goes into the valve.

I had that happen this past summer and just replaced the handle extension. They use a cheap pop metal on the handle extension. It broke when I hit something on the road, right where it threaded onto the valve.

I have also had to replace actual waste valves on other trailers that I've had, and it's really not that hard of a job. Four bolts and some gaskets, which all come with the new valve kit. The gaskets were the hardest thing to line up right.

At least it's a clean tank!

Secret to getting the seals on right:

Coat them with a bit of axle grease, put them on the flanges, insert CLOSED valve and rotate to “feel” if the are still straight.
