Shower door sagged

The shower door on our 2010 Cougar is sagged and out of square. It binds at the bottom and has torn the seal. We have to lift up on it to get it to open. I am afraid to try jacking it back to square in case I shatter the glass. Has anyone had this problem and dealt with it somehow?
Thanks for any advice, Greg.

If you look at the top hinge there is a roberts head #2 screw. Use your foot or have someone support the door. Using an electrical eyelet, cut off the insulated part and save the loop.

Take the screw out, lift the pin, slip the washer in and then put the screw back in. You may have to use 2 or even 3. I’ve done it on brand new $500,000.00 motorhomes.

I think you mean a ring terminal? That would have to go at the bottom hinge in order to raise the entire door. I guess that would work to cure the binding. Thanks, I will have to see how easy it is to get the door off.

I don’t understand how shimming the top hinge would help, if that is what you are meaning. The two left and right door frame members are vertical and parallel to the shower wall framing. The problem is that the door is out of square. Raising the entire door would not fix the door…but would cure the binding issue.

Because the top pin sits on top of the frame. If you pull it out and shim it, it will lift the door. Sounds weird but it’s a trick taught to me by an old boss over 10 years ago.

Ok. I will have to take another look at it. The more I think about it, I don’t see why a door with a one piece glass panel would be able to sag, but it has. They likely cut the glass slightly smaller than it should have been?

This must be a different system than what you are referring to. When We are done camping for this season I will attempt to remove the door and square it up. Then if I break it I will have time to get it fixed before next season.

Came across this thread as I was researching. I have the same issue and same door, were you able to solve this problem?

Tim, The OP hasn't been on this forum since January. Doubt you will hear from him anytime soon.

Hi Tim. No I have not dealt with this issue. The trailer is in storage and I have been ignoring it. Thank you for reminding me! I will go to a nearby glass shop and ask them if they can square it up if I bring the door to them. They may be less likely to shatter the glass than I am. I will post results here if I correct it.

I thought you had stopped responding to this issue so I didn't post anything to a "dead thread"... Now that you're back, in response to your comment that you can't understand why a single piece of glass can "sag"....

The glass is "floating in a bed of putty/glazing"... The glass didn't sag, but the aluminum frame around the glass "sagged enough to get out of square"... You might be able to "push it back into square" with an extended pipe clamp system, if you remove the door from the trailer, lay it flat and use a pipe clamp to GENTLY pull the door diagonally to "square it up again".... It likely will eventually sag again, but it should get you through another year or two...

The "eventual fix" would likely be to deconstruct the door, replace the glazing and reassemble the door using new hardware"... Or, order a new door assembly and replace it. Neither would assure a "permanent, long lasting fix"... Putty/glazing is going to allow the aluminum frame to sag, the weight of the glass is going to always be an issue with "future sagging".....

Well, since I have nothing else to do….I went by the local glass shop. The fellow said the glass is called “rain” and they don’t stock it and would have to check availability if it did get broken.
The top cap comes off in one piece. Then the door can be removed after removing the one top screw. It is a long one and a skinny round Phillips screwdriver would work better than the hex shaft one I had, since it has to be undone from an angle.
I soaped up all the edges and gently disassembled everything. I have yet to clean everything up and re-assemble it. I think if I coat the two vertical sides inside and outside the gasket with a bit of clear silicone it will have a better chance of staying square.

Not sure I would care about the "rain" pattern on the glass. Have you considered a lighter material such as some sort of plexiglass? A lighter weight panel might help a poorly designed frame from getting kittywonkered.

I have this glass already so I will reuse it. I think if I have the glass seated down as low as possible on the hinge side it hopefully won’t sag….especially with a bit of silicone added. The glass is exactly square, but the labels on the glass were upside down, so it may have been assembled at the factory as an opposite swing door???

I don't see how reversing the swing could effect anything. I think using glass shower doors in a trailer is a bad idea. Heavy glass supported by a flimsy aluminum frame in a vehichle thats bouncing down the road and possibly subject to a wide range of temperature changes over a short time, what could possibly go wrong?

I'm guessing you'll be "resetting" the door periodically unless you reinforce it. I'd try squaring it up as you have done then install corner braces to reinforce the door structure. Care will be required to not drive a screw into the glass.

Just my thoughts on using silicone. I would NOT use anything with silicone it it on any application that I might be taking apart to reuse or reseal...

Silicone, once cured won't stick to anything, not even itself.

I'd buy a tube of GEOSel ProFlex clear acrylic sealant. It is designed for use in RV's, adheres to metal and glass, will stick to itself even after curing and cleans up much better than Silicone products. https://www.amazon.com/Geocel-Sealan...s%2C448&sr=8-2

A bit "spendy" but much better results than a $4 tube of silicone from Lowe's or HD.

The glass is a bit shorter than the frame, likely to allow for expansion/contraction? If it was assembled so the gap was at the bottom, it would allow the glass to settle while bouncing down the road, and drag the latch side framework down with it. Just my thought….they’re probably not that fussy at the factory. The molding/gasket(?) is the same depth as the extrusion, so if the glass was supported at the bottom hinge corner it shouldn’t sag.

Thanks for the link! It shows it as unavailable I will check with the glass shop and RV dealer locally to see if they have something other than silicone.
