If it is one of the low profile round lights with a button in the center, there is no “bulb” but rather a circuit board with a bunch of small LED chips. We have two of those on our bedroom ceiling (no shelf/cabinet above the bed to bang our heads on) and they are very bright and a pain to turn off when laying in bed. I am currently looking at some reading light options to mount on the wardrobe closets on each side of the bad and then feed them from the power in the nightstands below. In your case, it should be easier since you already have power right above your head. I would add a reading light on either side of the center light, and then remove the existing light and put a cover plate over the center location.

Maybe I'm mistaken but the simple solution to me would be to remove the fixture and replace it with the fixture you like/are accustomed to.

Yes, it is that single light that you turn on in center of the circle. I was hoping for a quick bulb.. ha.. will have to investigate further...

Don't hit head anymore as they made cabinet above bed so skinny, you almost can't fit a small basket in for holding clothes..!! I am thinking a shelf under it would be nice.

You can paint the light cover to block some of the light that passes through it. I have done this with the light over the bed. If you don't want to paint it you can cut a thin piece of cardboard to fit the inside the cover block some light also.

You can also get light gels at most photography stores or online.

Or cut a disc of aluminum foil to tape to the "lower face" of the light dome, leaving the light to "glow" around the circumference, thus blocking the direct glare into your eyes, but leaving the "ceiling illumination"....
