Manatee Springs........anyone been there?

We are thinking about planning a trip to Manatee Springs State Park in FL. Next spring. Has anyone stayed there or know any info about the park?

Thanks,
Bo

Bo, Cyndie and the little fluffy ones, Welcome to the forum. We have not stayed at that state park but just want to be sure you know that Fla. state parks limit your stay (in most cases) to 14 nights. We will be heading south to the Sarasota area for the month of April also. Maybe we'll see you on the road. Travel safely, Hank

We stayed in Manatee Spring SP a few years ago. Its an ok park, the deer in the park would wander right into your campsite. The downside to all the deer was an abundance of ticks. We were finding the little blood suckers in the trailer for weeks after that camping trip. Mind you, we had a dog and we did spend a fair amount of time walking around the park.

Hmmmmm, definetly something to think about. Don't like ticks! One trick we started to do is carry Home Defense by Ortho and spray around the trailer before we set up. We camped at a site earlier that was overun with spiders and decided to go with the spray ever since.

Thanks for the info.

Bo

I have stayed there several times. It is a beautful park, and plenty of wildlife.

We live in Ocala and have been to the park several times. Some times you can swim in the springs and on cool days you might be able to see the manitees. There is a great Bar-B-Que in Chiefland that you also want to try out while there. You need to remember, Florida has 6 posonious snakes and every type of bug you have heard people complain about. Keep you kids sprayed down with neet and stay out of the brush, wear a hat, check your pets. It is not as bad as you might think. I think that Florida State Parks are the best in the nation. But, I'm bias.............:

Florida state parks have alot to offer. Usually clean sites & some with concrete pads. You can go to the park website & select your site after reviewing the pictures of that site. Regarding snakes that is the unfortunate truth. Look before you put your foot down & watch your dogs! They are a great place to camp depending on the time of year!
