Whew.

I'm glad that the experienced folk feel that this is the right path.
In the end, it was about safety (for everyone) and peace of mind for me.
I am very analytical by nature, but missed out on the very important payload piece.

May Long Weekend in Canada, and our first trip out with this rig!
Cya!

Big trucks are fun when you pull up to other drivers in traffic as daily drivers. Needed, nah. Going to drive one from now on, yup.

Max. Trailer weight rating: 11250 lb

I figured on the trailer (when loaded) being closer to 8500 lb to be on the safe side (and i have read many times about rvs coming off the assembly line a bit chubbier than the weights indicate).
I consulted my dealership, and the numbers looked ok to me. Many others (from what i see on blogs etc.) tow this Cougar (and larger ones) with half-tons.
I will call dealership again in morning to confirm.
First the key number is missing, payload. That is the yellow sticker driver side door post. 2nd did you not notice the math? If GCWR is 17000 and your truck is rated at 7100 then that leaves (17,000 - 7,100) 9,900 lbs is the max trailer weight. Hitch weight will be 1,485 for that trailer (15% of LOADED weight)

The OP already bought an F350 (see post 17). He should be good now.

You'll be pleased with the 6.7! Just as a daily driver it's an awesome truck but once you hook up to a load, that's when it really shines! Especially if you've only experienced towing with a gasser. It like apples and oranges. My philosophy is the same as why I carry a concealed weapon. I'd rather have one and not need it than need one and not have it! Enjoy!

The reason it's so hard to find a good used truck in Alberta is because they all get shipped to the U.S.A. because they're worth more used down there than here.

I know it wasn't easy, but you have chosen wisely! Good job. Refreshing to hear from someone who studies, listens, takes note, studies some more, and then makes good decisions. Your family will benefit.

Thanks for the updates!

Great decision Dan. I love my F350 6.7 and would keep it even if I stopped towing. It's not ridiculous using it as a daily drive. When you sit in traffic you just look down on everyone else and smile.

At least it is a Platinum, so it is quite comfy. There are much worse things to have for a daily driver....
