South Rim Grand Canyon

Just finished a 10 day trip to the South Rim, Grand Canyon National Park.
By going before Memorial Day, we beat most of the crowds and had a really nice trip. We stayed at the Mather campground and it was a delight.
Highly recommend the NP campground over the Trailer Village.
Check my member page www.keystoneforums.com/forums/member.php?u=19389
for some additional photos of the South Rim.

I'm headed their in September. What if anything would you do differently? And does Mather have hook ups?

You'll love it! No hook ups in Mather. Like most NP/forest Service campgrounds there is a dump station at the entrance to the CG where you can fill the fresh tank on the way in and dump on the way out. The Village CG has full hook ups if needed. Also, Mather is a little short on spaces for larger RVs. Be sure to check the site size before you reserve. Again, Village CG can accommodate larger units.
As far as what to do different, not much. We toured the park from one end to the other so making sure you have a full tank of fuel when entering the park is a good idea. Don't know which entrance you'll be using, but we came in from the east so should have filled up in Cameron, AZ. The Park provides a pretty robust mass transit bus system so getting around isn't a problem. Just very crowded. We enjoyed all the view points but thought the sights along the Desert View section were particularly stunning.
Happy to answer any other questions.

If you are a fan of less crowds, the North Rim is our favorite, but it has been 10 years or so since the last time we camped there.

The drive, from the south rim is pretty long, but the painted desert is awesome.

Two years ago we stayed in the Trailer Village CG and were very happy as it has full shuttle service plus was convenient to everything within minutes. Last year we were late reserving so stayed at the GRAND CANYON CAMPER VILLAGE. Yep, convenient at the South Entrance, has shuttle service across the street but this place needs help, lots and even more help, so bad we left a day early and wont get my recommendation, obviously.

From 2 years ago:
