Patching a hole, DIY or Pro?

Never mind how, but my new trailer has a busted taillight and a couple inch "L" shaped crack where a 4x4 fence pole had the audacity to push into it. Looking at other posts I didn't see anyone trying to fix a skin crack themselves, so is this definitely a dealer fix? Mine is 90 mins away but I was gonna stop there Wednesday to have a failed Curt brake controller replaced.

Thanks,

KJ

The 1st RV, a tent camper my family owned when I was young, had a similar issue with a picnic table. I was young and unable to communicate that to my Dad who was driving. I learned that lesson well. My DW watches for me like I was supposed to for my Dad. I listen very carefully to her while she's directing me. Good luck fixing it. We just put a sign with our names on it over the dents.

Replacing the lens is easy. Unless your dealer has experience with fiberglass repair consider a mobile boat repair. Those that come to local marinas fix much worse, match any color, and you cannot find any sign of a repair.

Depending on the location and size of the damage, you might consider putting a "fake" access door over the damage. There are several sizes available and will fool even the experts. I did this several years ago when I got a gash in my aluminum sided camper. Quick and cheap compared to professional repair. Another possibility is a decal, or bumper sticker.

As a last resort, novelty shops sell GIANT Band-aid stickers that say "OUCH" on them. Circa 1960's. LOL

Sorry about the bad luck, and let us know how you make out...

Talked to my dealer and they handle estimates for insurance and then send the trailers out to a specialist. I have a local shop that does high end fiberglass repairs, Corvettes and the like, but I wasn't sure if the skin on these new trailers was fiberglass or something else.

Guess I will check with my insurance co and see what my coverage limit is, then see if Keystone has any info on repair specifics, and contact my local shop. For now I covered it with a 3" strip of clear packaging tape to keep water & bugs out. It's right next to the corner of the trailer with the taillight on the other side, so I hope I don't have to worry about the break developing a crack that starts to spread (saw concerns about that in another thread.
