2014 Cougar 330RBK spare tire underneath.

Decided after one trip, spare ain't for the back bumper. I want to mount it under the frame behind the back wheel. Searched but cannot find the right one for underneath with an enclosed belly.

Look at the slide out rack I in theory could mount it on top of the channels that hold the sliding rack. Out a price of steel tubing with a holder on top between it and the frame rails and either weld or bolt it in place. Then use some sort of bolts or which style tire mount.

Anyone done that or bought a underbody mount for an enclosed belly 5th wheel?

Bal makes a couple different styles for different frames.

Looks like a nice product. I was just hoping to use something smaller.

I'm going to order this tomorrow. I'm trying to figure out if my cougar has any cross members hidden under the coraplast. If not I will have to add something to mount this to. Then I will reinforce the bumper to hold my bikes, and only use the slide out tray for 2 Honda 2000 generators when I need them.

I went with the BAL unit. I welded it to the frame. No way to mount the one in your post without serious design and fabrication. No crawling underneath with the BAL. Good luck! Chino

Did you mount thenBAL on a 5th wheel with fully enclosed underbelly? I looked at the BAL, but it looks like I would have to remove some coraplast to get to the frame as well.

I just installed a BAL spare tire carrier on my Cougar fifth wheel. It fits on the outside of the I beam and is held in place with about 8 screws in each end mounting plate. I had to use an angle grinder to cut a small part of the plate with the hinge bolts so it would fit into the I beam where an outrigger was located. No problem doing it and we've towed about 5,000 miles since installation without any issues. I'd recommend looking seriously at the BAL system. Easy to install, not real expensive and it works as advertised.

Thanks JRTJH. Any chance you pictures? I have a propane line that runs almost the length of the Frame, so I'm concerned about how it mounts.

I will take some pictures when it stops raining. As for the 1/2" black iron gas pipe, the BAL endplates fit inside the outer part of the I beam and extend down about 2-3". The pipes that support the spare tire attach to those end plates. There is no interference with the gas line and the BAL spare tire carrier. I'll get the pictures posted ASAP.

If you consider the BAL, make sure you order the correct one. There are 4 possible choices and only one will fit LOL (don't ask me how I know, but there's a new one in my pole barn that has never been unwrapped) <sigh>

I have sent an email to BAl to ask them which model they recommend for my 2012 Cougar 330RBK. I will share if they reply. I am thinking it would be this model...

I don't have a Cougar, but rather another Keystone trailer. I was able to go to Keystone (Lippert? ... I don't remember now) and got a rack with options to mount in front of or behind my axles. I went in front as I was having a receiver hitch mounted and wanted balance in weight distribution.

We had to make a small detour on the routing of the LP gas line as it exited from the front compartment (sorry, no "before" photos), but the rack was able to accommodate the line running along the underside of the frame.

Photos

Hope it helps.

TomHaycraft-that's more along the lines of what I was looking for. You don't have the part number still do you?

Looks like it has 4 bolts on each side that attach to the frame?

I just installed a BAL Hide a Spare behind the rear wheels. I have a enclosed underbelly with I beams and used part # 28218 and it works great Now I can put my bike rack on the bumper and use a Swagman #64663 on my bumper.

The receipt has Part No 237962, it is described as a Spare Tire Hoist. It was likely directly from Keystone, I've seen the same configuration as OEM on ... it may have been a Sprinter.

Hope this helps.

I checked with the local dealers. The issue is shipping. Could get the BAL or the Lippert setup for around $100.00-$125.00, but shipping is $125.00.

I think I might try storing it in the basement storage or maybe the front "dirty" storage. I have almost anything I can think of already and have plenty of room to make it work
