Replacing sofa with furnace underneath

Hi! Newbie here. We have a hideout 262bh. Has anyone replaced the uncomfortable sofa with either a different sofa, or turned it into something different like cabinets or something? We live in our camper full time, so we were thinking more towards storage.. but don’t know what we could do with the furnace still there. Thank you!!!

Everyone's lifestyle and creature comfort demands are different. People make modifications to their campers all the time so unwanted manufacturing design is changed to meet that specific lifestyle. There's nothing wrong with that. It's your camper, you can make any type of change you want.

Before pulling out the old sofa, you do need to have a plan in place for it's replacement (whatever that is going to be). What best fits your unique lifestyle? Do you really need a couch if all it's used for is collecting piles of stuff? Then a cabinet makes better sense. However, if you enjoy sitting in that location, but the seating is just horribly uncomfortable, then you'll need to customize a new seating arrangement. You will not find anything factory fit that will work. Considering the furnace is sitting there, you'll have to figure some way around that.

If you go with a cabinet, make sure you leave a way to easily access the furnace from the inside of the camper, and if ever needed, to remove it completely. Things do happen and any mechanical mechanism in your camper WILL fail someday! If not now, it will later! So, whatever you build there, just leave adequate and easy access for the furnace.

The sky is the limit. We do not use our kitchen table ... ever. We removed all the self-standing chairs and use that space for storage now. We use folding TV tray style tables in the living room when we eat, or we eat outside on the picnic table. Those chairs were useless to us. So, they got removed. This is our personal lifestyle.

You can do the same. Customize it to fit YOUR needs. It's just nothing more than a few staples, some pieces of wood, a bit of fabric and a little bit of creativity!

Is the camper at a fixed site or do you travel? Are you in a place where it gets pretty cold? Hard to answer you without some specifics. Your camper has a queen bed, jackknife sofa and a bunk bed(s). Doesn't sound like removing the jackknife sofa do any harm as it isn't over a wheel well so yank it. You might not have room for recliners with the kitchen counter so close; but a comfy sofa would work fine. Go to amazon or ebay and most that will ship will have backs that come off and are easy to get through a camper's door. We have wall hugger recliners in our Cougar we bought on eBay. Had a LazyBoy love seat recliner previously.

When you say furnace, do you mean a floor duct? Been a while since I’ve been in a 262, but if I remember correctly, it does have ducted heat. If it’s just a floor duct, you only need the cabinets to be mounted with and air gap underneath and a vent to allow the air to move into the camper. Grand Design has a similar setup under the kitchen island or cabinets in just about every model.

There's no year so just looking at the floor plan I think the "shelf" beside the jack knife some is actually a cabinet.. a sales video shows the intake/ exhaust in thar area outside. So if I had to guess my guess would be the plenum or flex duct goes under the sofa.
