Changing propane reg. pigtails......

While removing old pigtail with 1/4"NPT, I lost the small st. steel ball bearing, as I unscrewed the hose. I can't figure out what it does, except perhaps seat itself back against the brass base of hose, preventing propane from going back into tank? Thought the regulator prevented that from happening. Am I going to have to buy a new regulator, if I can't find this ball bearing? Thank you.

The only place a ball bearing should be in a pigtail assembly is in the plastic nut assembly that attaches to the cylinder valve, and that is part of the excess flow protection valve. I don’t know why a ball would be at the regulator end of the pigtail unless it somehow was able to move to the other end.

I think I'm gonna replace the regulator. I ordered the typical (1/4" inverted male flare), and need to send back. I'll just get new reg/hoses, from amazon. Here are pics of what falls out of hose, when removed from reg.

You are missing a small spring also. I am convinced that the pig tails of the regulator are an integral part. The weird thing is that the other pigtail has three orings and balls, Personally, I think you can operate the regulator manually by turning on only one tank valve at a time. Of course there is a recall going on...
