Gate valves

I have a 2020 Keystone Passport 3551 bh. It has 2 Gray tanks and 2 black tanks. There is only 3 gate valves when I went to dump it after it’s maiden voyage. The back dump outlet has one gate valve that appears to be on the Gray water pipe. There does not appear to be a valve for the black tank. I opened the discharge outlet without thinking much about it.....that was a mistake. It’s a good thing I was uphill from it, and the camp host wasn’t watching me.

Welcome to the forum

I have to ask, how did you determine you have 4 waste tanks?

I have buttons to check the levels on 2 Gray tanks, and 2 black tanks. I’m not clear why that would be installed without having 4 tanks. There are stickers on the side of the camper that identifies which valve is which also. 2 stickers for gray, 2 for black. But only 3 valves. I should clarify that there is 2 stools in the camper.

All manufacturers will use a generic monitor panel, for more than 1 line of trailer.

Do you in fact have 4 drain pipes coming out of the underbelly? I’m only asking because I haven’t seen 4 tanks with only 3 valves.

Yes. There are 4 lines coming out of the underbelly. I’d like to inspect that further, but it’s completely enclosed and I’d like to not damage my new camper.

I’d like to see some pics of that.

The specs for this trailer show 76 gallons grey and 76 gallons black, with two bathrooms, one at each end of the trailer, and if there are all cable pulls for the valves, I'll bet there is one down low, maybe coming out of the frame area between the two slides on the driver's side.

Pics would help. But we had a missing gray dump handle. We bought it 6 months old, so technically we're the 2nd owner. In our case the tank and 3 inch (or maybe that's 4 inch) dump cap were present, just no pull handle.

Use a flashlight, shine it along the 1/4 inch edge of the coroplast as it lays against the steel frame. Look within 12 inches left and right of the waste cap. In our case the line worker sprayed expanding foam along the edge to seal the gap created by the pull rod coming out from the underbelly. Within about 6 inches of the waste cap I found a round hole in the spray foam. That's where our rod used to be. I carefully cut an L-shapped cut in the coroplast to fold down like a trap door. There was the pull gate. It had a 1/4-20 thread just waiting for me to buy a replacement handle to screw onto it.

Bought a pull handle kit on Amazon.

If you cut the coroplast be very careful. The waste tank lays tightly on top of the coroplast. If you cut too deeply you'll slice your tank.

This sounds like the most likely scenario.

I will definitely inspect that possibility. The Gray handle is exposed. It’s the one on the 1 1/2” pipe that I can see. Although, given what you’ve suggested, it’s certainly possible that the black one was buried. What are the chances that it was buried in the open position?

Not unusual for the handles to vibrate off or become MIA at a storage lot or the dealer. Had one missing during PDI on our trailer. I have a habit of giving them a twist to tighten bevore hitching up and every time before I pull on them to open them.

To try to answer this question I re-read the last two sentences in your first post.

1. Is this the location of the missing handle?
2. What exactly happened when you took off the cap?

Pictures would really help us help you.

So in the second pic, I see two pull handles. Probably 1 for gray and 1 for black. They both use the shared discharge hose connection.

But in the first pic I see only one pull handle and it's clearly attached to the gray water (small diameter pipe). What I don't see is a pull handle for the black water tank, the large 4 inch pipe sticking out there. I think I see a tear, or slice, in the coroplast. I can't zoom in well enough to be sure. But I think that's the location for the missing handle. I can't see the picture and type this at the same time so ignore me if I'm obviously wrong for asking, but can you remove 2 or 3 screws holding the edge of the coroplast in place along the edge of the steel frame and see up in there with a flashlight?

Absolutely, you can remove as many screws as needed to access the area to make repairs. Don't be surprised if some may break, that is normal. You can easily get some 1/4" X 1" TEK screws along with washers if needed to put the coroplast back up.
