Water Heater By-pass Lever

I have a quick question about the Water Heater By-pass lever in the convenience compartment in our trailer (pic below).

We have never had one of these before and always had to winterize by removing panels to access the back of the water heater and turn the lever manually to close off the inlet pipe to the water heater.

When we turn this lever to “on” does that perform the same action as above and turn off the inlet into the water heater or do we still have to get to the back of the water heater and shut the valve off there?

Sorry, the Owners Manual is crap.

Yes, performs the same function as the old school valve behind the water heater. You still need to drain the tank, just like in the “good” old days.
