Add garbage disposal?

Is it possible to add a garbage disposal to an rv sink? Obviously you would have to cap off the piece that usually runs to dishwasher and run a dedicated wire to a switch . Can and rv gray water system handle it? Has anyone tried this?

You will never get all the heavy solids out of the tank. I do not think this is a good idea.

All new disposals come with a blocked off dishwasher port. Most Islands come with a power outlet, if it is under a wall counter power should not be far away.

I wouldn’t put a disposal in an RV. It falls in the same category as a dishwasher. Unless your full time.

I would pass on the disposal as well, one tank with big chunks is enough plus the greys DO NOT have rinsing capabilities to move them out. The galley grey water often smells worse than the black & can't imagine what it would be like with more food scraps brewing.
We had the dishwasher in our last 5er & from what I could figure used less water to wash a full load every other day or so than to wash a few dishes by hand 3 times daily.

I had to PDI a couple of Solitudes with the Furrion dishwasher, and I wasn’t impressed.

I’ve done lots of PDIs on Tiffen class A’s with a fisher Paykel (sp) and thought they were much better. Still both took a long time.

Galley gray tanks typically are plumbed with 1.5" slide valves and drain pipe, connecting to the 3" sewer outlet on the trailer. The black tank is plumbed with 3" valve and 3" sewer line. With the 3" fittings, there's barely enough flow force to empty the black tank and almost always needs to be flushed to empty the remaining solid contents. There's simply not enough flow force through the 1.5" valve to flush the solids from a garbage disposal out of the tank. I'd guess that in a couple weeks of heavy use, you'll be taking the disposal out and working (or hiring someone else) to try to clean your galley tank to stop that awful odor that comes up the sink every time you pull the plug and drain the dish water.

Ah, you city slickers.
It's not just plumbing size.
Having grown up on a farm with a septic system we never had a garbage disposal. Septic systems don't handle that kind of waste very well.
While many RV parks may be on city sewers I would bet a lot are on septic systems and they would be quite unhappy with your conversion.

Never found that putting potato peelings in the trash to be a big problem.

NOT a good idea...that simple. Don't do it, your holding tank is NOT a city sewer system.

Frankly this is a terrible idea. I learned years ago that you don’t use a garbage disposal with a septic system let alone a closed tank system in an RV. If you use a mascerator pump you will wear it out in very short order...it doesn’t even do too well with toilet paper! If you use a gravity drain system you will end up with a lot of solids in your tank and eventually clog the system. A really ill advised and unacceptable idea. Put the garbage in the trash!
