Battery drained

Hi! We are drycamping. 1 battery drained in 2 days. We had the solar panels hooked up but it was cloudy. Do solar panels not work when it’s cloudy? Why would our battery go from full to dead?

Your battery went from full to dead because they were discharged by use I suspect. What you use and how much you use "them" will deplete the batteries. If all you have is solar and it has been cloudy I highly doubt they are able to generate enough power to charge the batteries. Solar panels don't just "quit" when cloudy but will only produce a very small amount of electrical power compared to a bright sunny day (maybe 10-15%). Also, depending on the size of the solar panel(s) the amount it produced may have been barely adequate on a sunny day much less on a cloudy day.

Here is a thread that may be interest to you pertaining to a similar problem;

What are the stats on your silar panels?

What size battery, how many, same age? Makes a difference.

What are you running off of them?

More infk is needed to exactly answer your question.

Don't forget about the other draws like the smoke detector, the CO2 detector and the LP gas detector.....just a thought on your battery draw down.

Lights, refrigerator controls, waterheater controls, water pump and fans and vents. If you are working with 1 12v battery you did fairly well. If your plans are for more dry camping you will at least need larger battery capacity with enough solar to charge them or a small generator or all of the above.
Enjoy and travel safely, Hank
