My understanding is that aside from corrosion issues, the spring hangers are not weak spots like the shackles, so nothing typically needs to be done.

That is also my understanding. The movement, and thus wear occurs in the shackle itself, not the hanger. So as long as the shackles are properly lubricated, they should not expect to be worn through so aggressively. They seem to wear the most at the equalizer on the dual axle. That is also a potential place for an upgrade.
