a couple house work questions

firstly, what size screw holds the grey water handle to the rod? One fell off and unable to open without using a pair of pliers.

next, I have two decorative lights in the sitting area/dining area that will not turn on. All the fuses seem to be working.

and, what is the best way to clean the underside of the awning?

finally, what kind of paint is ok to use on my steps? They are starting to get a little rusty.

Thanks so much.

You most likely have "Bristol" brand waste valves if it takes a screw in the middle of the handle to hold it on. I have replaced a few missing, but the new handles come with a screw. I think it may be 1/4" 20 , but if you have another handle just take that screw out and match it at the local big box hardware store. Our local Home Depot has a display with screws and nuts to "test fit" the part you DO have.

Lights: are you sure the bulbs aren't burnt out?

Bottom side of awning: there is a few threads on this subject. One says a swiffer mop works, another says to use OUTDOOR bleach, Dawn Ultra in a sprayer. I have used the bleach/dawn mix with good results. 1/4 cup outdoor bleach, and a good squeeze of Dawn Ultra (blue) in a gallon of water, mix in a cheap 1 gallon sprayer.

Wear goggles, and maybe cover your hair. Spray the bottom of the awning til wet. I use a broom to gently scrub and then spray again. Roll the awning up for 20 minutes, unroll and rinse well. Make sure to rinse BOTH SIDES of the fabric.

Steps: any quality spray paint will work. Proper preparation is key, clean and maybe a self etching primer. Rust-oleum makes paints that "convert" rust, maybe try that.
