Crater Lake Np

I am heading to Crater Lake in August and looking for a campground near there, can anyone recommend one?

Crater Lake National Park

We stayed at Crater Lake Resort, Fort Klamath, OR last year. We had a site that backed up to the creek. It's only a few miles from the south entrance of the park.

We stayed at Crater Lake RV Park in Prospect, OR. Nice park, nice staff - $29 per night for FHU(in 2014). Southwest of the park entrance by about 20 miles.

I grew up near here, if you are not concerned about full hook ups, you MUST stay on the north umpqua highway 138 leading up to crater lake. anywhere between glide and diamond lake there are some literally unreal water falls, deep river pools, and campsites. Suggest Eagle Rock, Toketee, and horseshoe bend. Google north Umpqua river camping and you will find many more. Suggest a very very easy hike into toketee falls and Watson falls on your journey.

We will stay at Joseph Stewart State Park on Hwy 62 near Prospect and take day trips into CL. Joseph Stewart SP is a little more spread out and your not camping right on top of the guy next to you. Lots of bike trails. You will be about 35 miles from CL...

We stayed at the Klamath Falls KOA, and it was not a nice experience. It was thick with bugs they called Midgies (mouthless mosquitos), and they were menacing! Maybe that's just a condition of the whole area - this was our only experience there. Crater Lake was awesome.

I agree with Nellie ...... camp along the Umpqua river. Some of the most beautiful scenery you will ever see.

How is the Diamond Lake campground? Is it still a Forest Service site or did I read somewhere that it no longer is? We are anticipating a trip there the week following Labor Day.

If you are coming in on 97, Collier State Park is very nice and has full hook-ups. It's quite close to CL.
