How old is he?
We had to move our dogs to the gluten free also.
All they ever did was chew, chew.. they have just about stopped. We get them allergy shots in the spring and now this crazy NC weather has them tore up again. Younger one is doing OK but the 13 year old is having a time.
Plus you gotta love them.

Our Lab was afflicted with skin allergies. The vet had us put him on a salmon/sweet potato dog food. No cereals or corn meal. Solved the issue. They also have the sweet potato foods with turkey or beef.

Our new Lab is on a prescription venison and potato diet. No treats other than the home dehydrated sweet potatoes or elk meat. His itching has calmed way down. I am assuming we will gradually start to add a few more "home" treats once we are settled on this.

When I saw the first picture here, I thought maybe your pup was a Tripawd. A lot of them use the booties for traction. We had a ramp for ours, and he had no problem going into the camper.

My Greek friend tells me that Windex should clear that right up, and a Jewish friend would say, "Can't hoit." My wife would say, "Oregano!"

I have celiac disease, meaning to live I must be gluten free. That causes all kinds of problems in humans, mostly gastrointestinal, weight loss and skin problems. Never heard of it in dogs but, they seem to get some human problems. Did that disease ever come up in talks with the Vet. If not look it up and see if other signs where present. For humans it takes up to 2 years of non gluten food only to repair the intestinal track so the body is back to normal.

After I looked at the picture, I also thought of disease as the cause. Our old Golden had something called reactive hystiocytosis. He started with skin lumps, but the last one he had was like your pup's...right in the toes. It looked like the toe would explode.

We took him to a canine dermatologist after our local vet referred him. She took one look and knew what it was, because she had made a lengthy study of the disease. Once he got onto the proper meds, we were able to treat the outbreaks very well.

If you have access to a skin specialist, that would certainly be a good place to start. They are trained to deal with this type of thing and can often pinpoint the cause quickly.

That inter-digital cyst look nasty. Our Blackmouth Cur had the same problem, we put him on a grain free, wheat free diet and our vet put him on allergy medicine (skin allergies and when he was two he was hit by a porcupine and it really messed up his immune system) and it really help clear up his infections. I wish you luck.
