towing with 373
Need some advise I'm looking a new 15 ram 3500 dually with the 410 gears. Was wondering how many of you are running the 373. I'm having a hard time finding the exact truck I want with the options I want and 410. So was going to consider going with the 373. But I didt want to sacrifice the towing power.

I am towing with 3.73 rear in the 3500 DRW and find it tows fine.
Now if your looking for towing capacity numbers, there are a couple of things that may balance out. The Mac daddy is the 4.10 with Aisin transmission, tows 30000pds compared to the Aisin transmission equipped with the 3.73 DRW is rated at 23500pds. But if you were looking at a f68 transmission equipped truck with 4.10 finding a 3.73 with Aisin may fit the bill for numbers.

I'm not a Cummins guy so I can't speak from experience. I saw a post on a different forum from another guy with the 3:73 set up. He tows a lot in hilly regions and said the Aisin is constantly gear hunting with the 3:73s and he wished he had gotten the 4:10. I believe he is towing about 13k. He also complained of the fuel mileage, 17-18 empty and 9-10 loaded, 62-63 mph. It is a low mileage truck and we all know diesels don't really start getting good mileage until they hit 40-50K.
I guess it depends on the weight your pulling and the terrain what gear would be best for you.

We tow with a Cummins with a six speed behind it and 3.73 behind that. Total weight of the rig is just over 21,000 lbs. Fuel mileage is 11.5 to 13. Just came over Red Mountain, Molas and Coal Bank Passes (10,000 ft or higher) between Ouray and Durango, Colorado with no problems at all. Top speed is 60 mph. The Dodge is a 2001 HO but with the increased power of the new trucks I could not imagine needing a higher ratio rear end unless you are hauling a D-8 Cat or something similar. Sorry; have no experience towing with an automatic.

I've run them both and I believe you will like the 3.73 better. The 4.10 for me was too low towing a raptor 300mp. I also have a farm and tow tractors etc just about anything you can put behind it

my 2012 ram cummins high output has 3.73 gears. My 5th wheel is around 10,000 pds give or take. I have no problems having enough power or gear hunting. I can run 65 all day and stay in 6th gear (automatic)unless Im trying to get around someone or climbing a steep hill. At 65 its probably about 1600 rpms

I'm rolling 2010 3500 DRW with 3.73, my 5ver loaded is about 14k, I average 10 mpg at 60 turning 1600 rpm. I have no problem pulling the grapevine on I-5 or I-15 to Vegas, no hunting issues and I have more than enough power to spare.

Thank you all very much for your advise. Looks like I'll consider the 373.
