Let's talk 5th wheel hitches

I recently changed my tow vehicle from a 2008 F350 SB to a 2022 F350 LB DRW.

In the 08 I had a Pullrite 24k autoslide that weighs more than should be possible.

I have a RotoFlex pin box on a 2019 Keystone Raptor 356.

I was thinking of going with a Goosebox but I really don't need it. I only tow on highways or smooth dirt roads. I also don't need the autoslide anymore, so I would like to find a (reasonably) worry free replacement 5th wheel hitch (kigpin) that does not take two men and a boy to remove. I am not too keen on the aluminum Anderson hitches.

So now comes the picking of the hive mind. What hitch/s would you recommend for someone looking for a kingpin with a rating of at least 20K (overkill but it makes me feel good), reliable, prefer dual locking jaws, uses the Ford puck system and is reasonably easy to remove by one lightly gimped up adult.

TIA, I am looking forward to the sure to be lively discussion (I hope)

Remco Decon makes a very good hitch. But they are not designed for the Ford Pick system yet. So, rull that one out immediately. FYI, I use a Demco Recon, but I'm driving a Chevy and either a goosneck or a fifth wheel hitch can attach to the rails.

Since you don’t need a slider, any hitch you buy will be a lot lighter. If you have the goose ball in the bed, you could use the B&W companion. It’s not too heavy and attaches to the goose ball. What does your bed have now?

If you like the idea of the Andersen, but not the aluminum construction, look at the Pullrite 2600. I’ve been using it for several years now. Weight is only around 60 lbs, same concept as the Andersen, but steel construction. It’s also a much smaller footprint than the Andersen so easier to store and also gives more space in the bed of the truck.

I like that, I will have to look into it more.

I have been using a Curt 20K for about 5 years and it is does the job. I had to buy a Reese Puck adapting plate when I bought the new dually it was cheaper to do that then buying a new puck hitch by about $800. The Hitch can be easily broken down to two pieces to get it out of the truck.

B&W also makes a puck base for the big three, even easier no tools required. Now days the heaviest part of my Reese 16K hitch is the Reese picture frame adapter.

While I like the ease of lining up a traditional 5th wheel hitch, I would give strong consideration to a Reese Goosebox. I would put a mirror on the front of the 5er to assist with lining up.

I used a Curt Q20 when I had my '17 F350 dually. Never had a problem and very easy to use.

I’ve had a Curt Q20 and a PullRite 2600. I moved on to a Goosebox when I couldn’t solve the banging at stops and starts. Fairly happy with the Goosebox. Sometimes I get right on top of the ball to hitch, sometimes not.
I don’t understand what smooth roads has to do with the Goosebox. It has 2 shock absorbers and a air bag.
Goosebox has a max 20k GVW and 4 k pin weight.
5th Airborne pinbox also works good
Look at a GEN Y pinbox as well. Has a higher weight rating. Sometimes wish I had gone that route. .

If I ever feel the need to dump this autoslider (310 pounds) I'd more than likely head towards the Pullrite 2600.

i saw where they just released a gen3 goosebox with a couple of added features…might be nice to have the bed of my truck back.

so if you sell or trade your fifth wheel will you reinstall the original pin box?
