Adding a 2nd AC to our 2020 Outback 300ML

Just curious if anyone else has ever added a 2nd AC to their RV? When we bought our 2020 Outback 300ML 2 1/2 years ago, we bought it with only one 15k AC unit thinking it was just fine since our 2018 Outback 293UBH had a single 13.5k unit and cooled more than good! We were wrong, and I finally bought a 2nd AC for it and it's been delivered. I got a Coleman Mach 3 13.5k to match the 15k we already have on it.. The trailer is pre-wired for it,, just curious if anyone else here has done it and how "bad" of job was it? Seems pretty self explanatory... Any pointers when doing it?

Hardest part is getting it on on the roof. Since you’re prewiired, it’s pretty much just a matter of removing the ceiling vent and installing the AC. If you bought one that connects into the thermostat, then you have to figure out where the thermostat wire is in the wall. If you bought a unit with the temp and fan settings on the unit, the thermostat isn’t an issue.

I bought an unducted unit with the temp and fan controls on the faceplate. I got the AC and inside cover delivered for just shy of $1000, which I think was a good deal compared to Camping World?

I put a rec pro 9500 on the front of our raptor to cool the bedroom I also put their 15000 btu heat pump to the original ducted system in the living area as said above the hard part is getting it on the roof I am fairly stought from 40 years of body building so I use the ladder as a ramp and push them up while my brother arranges/cushions the landing

When I installed the heat pump I retained my Coleman control box to run the normal furnace the rec pros have remote controls to activate and adjust these units are extremely quiet we just spent 5 days boondocking the onan 5500 burned about 10 gallons a day running both ACs everything else in the camper as well as the cook tent that serves multiple camps

When I installed the bedroom unit it was pretty simple
Remove the vent and all trim ( I used a heat gun amd plastic scraper to remove dicor ) set new unit in place .

Inside mine had a plate and junction box with a sticker stating pre wired for air conditioner the coax got pulled into the vent opening 3 wire nuts and pushed aside for faceplate install

Some of the newer ones have ducts for the front unit you need to determine if your camper needs a ducted or non ducted unit for that location prior to ordering

Ask me how I know lol anyone need a rec pro 15000 btu non ducted airconditioner it's brand new

That means you have InCommand.

Those are the part numbers you need if you want to operate the AC from the InCommand panel. Your other option is to use an AC with ceiling controls and all you need is the 110VAC Romex that should already be there. Ducted will allow you to send cold air to the entire trailer, non ducted will only cool the bedroom.

I put in an Atwood 13.5 for the bedroom and it is perfect for us. Just make sure you power both the 110V and the 12V portions of the AC.
